Role Purpose

  • Save the Children International Kenya Country, Dadaab office has an exciting opportunity for you to join our team as Child Protection Assistant. The role holder will be responsible of field level implementation, case management processes, monitoring, and evaluation of child protection activities as well as providing support to child protection, community workers and staff.

  • The role holder will work closely with the community-based child protection structures in the refugee and local communities' and ensure effective reporting of cases from the blocks. In the event of a major humanitarian emergency, the role holder will be expected to work outside the normal role profile and be able to vary working hours accordingly.

    Qualifications and Experience

    Essential

  • Graduate degree in social work / social sciences or equivalent with preferably 1-year work experience in social work or with development-related organizations or diploma with 3 years active experience in Child protection.

  • Good communication skills with fluency in written and spoken English and Kiswahili.

  • Knowledge of community based child protection approaches, preferably including experience in participatory approaches.

  • Good IT skills including the use of Word and database software

  • Demonstrable ability to adapt to changing programme priorities and emergency priorities
    that may arise

  • Strong self-starter, able to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances and priorities

  • Positive attitude towards community work with emphasis on the ability to learn from communities and support innovative approaches to problem solving

  • Commitment to Save the Children's Child Protection Policy.

    Desirable

  • Previous experience in working with IA CPIMS.

  • Understanding of the dynamics of the refugees and local language is essential

  • Experience of working with refugee and host communities in a Somali context and other agencies that support Child Protection.

  • Child communication and interviewing skills.

  • Ability to adapt to different cultures.

  • Experience and skills in management of staff.

  • Experience in designing and facilitating training sessions.
