    Restless Development Uganda Board of Directors

  • The role of the Restless Development Uganda Board is to provide Leadership, guidance and strategic direction to Restless Development Uganda Executive Team to achieve the organisation's strategic objectives.

  • Young people’s voices are heard in decisions that matter to them most, from their communities to government.

  • Young people get the skills needed to make a living and succeed in life.

  • Young people own the decisions that affect their bodies, health and wellbeing.

  • Young people build strong communities that work together to solve issues they care about.

  • The Board is responsible for the stewardship of Restless Development Uganda.

  • This requires the Board to oversee the activities and affairs of Restless Development Uganda.

  • The Board discharges some of its responsibilities directly and discharges others through Committees of the Board.

  • The Board is not responsible for the day-to-day management and operation of Restless Development Uganda’s programs, as this responsibility has been delegated to Restless Development Leadership Team.

  • The Board is, however, responsible for supervising management in carrying out this responsibility.

    The Board has the Below key Functions

  • Review and approve the strategic plan, policies, annual work plans and budgets for the sound management of the organization.

  • Recruit, appraise, fix remuneration, promote, entertain disciplinary hearings, dismiss, and exercise any other powers in relation to the position of the Hub Director in connection with the Restless Development Global Leadership Team

  • Entertain appeals on disciplinary hearings of staff.

  • Networking and Fundraising: Connect Restless Development Uganda to relevant institutions and individuals that can support the organisation’s operations, including prospective donors

  • Ensure that effective processes exist to identify, and where possible, minimise, monitor and manage the risks the organisation faces

  • Periodically monitor program implementation to ensure impact

  • Consider and accept or reject application by new members to the organisation.

  • Cause proper books of accounts and other applicable records of management of the organization to be kept.

  • Shall present a report to the general membership at least once a year on the current state of affairs of the organization at the general meeting.

  • Consider applications for membership and if sufficient, forward to the
    General Assembly for final decision.

  • Shall uphold and protect the governing documents of the organization.

    Key Priorities

  • As part of our commitment to youth leadership, we need two young, under 23 years old, Board members to be part of the Board.

  • A candidate should have professional skills that complement the skills of existing Board Directors.

  • The Board will recruit new Directors who add strength in areas that are important to Restless Development Uganda’s long-term success and who also possess skills that are appropriate for the perceived current needs of the Board including Finance and Audit, Women’s Rights, Fundraising and Resource Mobilisation.

  • The person should be willing to serve for at least 5 years.

  • Restless Development Uganda hires on potential and seeks exceptional individuals who can demonstrate the leadership behaviours that are consistent with our values, and possesses a commitment to our mission.

    Essential Requirements

  • 23 years old or younger

  • Excellent reading and writing skills in english

  • Believe in the power for young people and be available to support the Organisation and its programs.

  • Experience in a leadership position where decision making and collaboration are a priority, Experience as a board director will be of added advantage

  • Have knowledge of the work undertaken by Restless Development Uganda in the areas of Sexual rights and Health, Living, Voice and Leadership

  • Be an individual of high integrity and have an inquiring mind, a willingness to ask hard questions and the ability to work well with others.

  • Be free of any conflict of interest that would violate any applicable law or regulation or interfere with the proper performance of the responsibilities of a Director.

  • Be willing and able to devote sufficient time to the affairs of Restless Development Uganda and be diligent in fulfilling the responsibilities of a Director and Board Committee Member.

  • Be willing to work on behalf of Restless Development Uganda without expectations of any reward except the satisfaction of having performed a valuable community service.

    What We Do For You

  • This is an unpaid role.

  • A director shall not receive remuneration from the organisation for his or her services to the organisation as a director.

  • However, the organisation may reimburse a director for expenses and time properly incurred by him/her in attending to meetings or engaging in any other business of the organisation duly communicated to the secretariat.

  • Director will receive an orientation program to induct them into Restless Development Uganda’s operations and their responsibilities as Directors.

  • This will be organised and facilitated by the organisation.
