    Duties and Responsibilities

    Under the direct supervision of the Programme Policy Officer and overall supervision of the Deputy Head of Programme, the incumbent will be responsible for the following duties:

  • Provide technical expertise on WFP’s post-harvest loss reduction initiatives (on cereals and fresh produce), including market linkages and access to markets;

  • Develop and refine Training of Trainer (TOT) curriculums and farmer manuals for the rural Somali context, on the stages of postharvest loss (PHL) reduction and access to markets, using both demonstrative and classroom-based teaching methods;

  • Train and build the capacity of WFP, partners, and government staff on the fundamentals of post-harvest loss prevention, market information systems, the agriculture value chain, pricing, sales, and marketing;

  • Review existing market information systems, map regional and local market outlets, and identify opportunities for linkages along the value chains;

  • Develop social and behaviour change messages for broadcast using various communication channels;

  • Review operational research around post-harvest loss prevention methodologies and equipment for both dry cereals and fresh produce, including access to finance, credit and subsidies;

  • Support the development of an
    agro-dealer network to foster a local supply and production of PHL equipment;

  • Draft timely analytical and critical reports, for internal or external use;

  • Perform other related duties as required.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Education

  • Advanced university degree in Agriculture, Market Information Systems, Environmental Engineering, Food Sciences, or other field relevant to international development assistance, or First University Degree with additional years of related work experience and/or trainings/courses.

    Experience

  • At least six years of professional experience in the design, and implementation of programmes on the agriculture value chain.

  • Experience working on different programme approaches with government agencies and providing advice on the development of curriculums is desirable.

  • Experience developing and delivering training programmes and institutional capacity building is required.

    Language

  • Fluency in both oral and written communication in English.

    Knowledge & Skills

  • Experience working with various stakeholders and establishing creative partnerships;

  • Excellent writing and presentation skills in English;

  • Training and/or experience utilizing computers including word processing, spreadsheet and other WFP standard software packages and systems. General Knowledge of UN systems and policies, rules, regulations and procedures governing administration;

  • Hands-on relevant experience in the UN or INGOs is desirable.
