  • The NORAD End Child Marriage Project, will work to ensure that children, adolescent girls and boys aged 10-18 years and young women and men 19 to 24 years old stay in school, are protected against child marriage and empowered to enjoy their sexual reproductive health rights in societies where gender equality is realised.

  • This position is responsible for assessment, response analysis, design and implementation of the child protection components of the NORAD End Child Marriage Project.

  • S/he will need to coordinate with other project team members and Plan International Uganda staff, especially in implementation management, health, education and other relevant technical sectors, to ensure a smooth implementation of the project.

  • S/he will need to ensure response to immediate child protection issues with simultaneous consideration of longer term needs and possible scenarios.

    Dimensions of the Role

  • Support strengthening of the local government and community based child protection systems.

  • Strengthening prevention and response to violence against child in scholl home and community settings.

  • Support establish and strengthen operations of children led activities for prevention of VACiS through school clubs.

  • Responsible for the delivery of the Child protection component of NORAD project results in accordance with Plan International’s values and behaviours, including gender transformative outcomes and Safeguarding of all Children.
    ROLES and Accountabilities

  • Working in Close consultation and with supervision from the Project Manager, the Project Coordinator Child Protection performs the following roles to implement the Chid Protection component of this project:

  • Provide specialised professional technical support for implementation the child protection activities under this project.

  • Prepare and submit to project manager, high quality activity, weekly, quarterly and annual narrative reports for all completed activities.

  • Support effective coordination and management of partnerships as well as building relations with all other actors involved in the implementation of this project to achieve desired results

  • Coordinate effectively with other thematic project coordinators and other staffs supporting the implementation of this project and leverage efforts, , build synergy, team work and deliver high quality project results

  • Support timely accountability for funds used to implement project in line with Plan international accounting policies and procedures and donor requirements.

  • Assist in effective management of project resources including procurements in accordance with Plan International Uganda policies and guidelines and in accordance with grant conditions.

  • Support with representation in meetings with partners, government line ministries and other stakeholders at district and national level
    project related activities in close consultation with the Project managent

    Internally

  • This position reports to the Project Manager - NORAD End Child Marriage Project

  • The position works in close consultation and coordination with the Project Manager, Project Coordinator - Youth Economic Livelihood, MER and Plan staff members to implement the project.

  • The Project Coordinator Child Protection is a key member of the Child Protection Thematic area supported by National Programme Manager - Child Protection based at Country office.

    Externally

  • The Project Coordinator - Child protection will work in close collaboration with child Protection stakeholders at district and sub-district levels, community levels.

  • The organisation further has a Safeguarding Children and Young People Policy that every staff is required to sign. As a result, this position comes with additional responsibilities for safeguarding children and young people:

    Additional Responsibilities

  • Children & young people safeguarding Policy Responsibilities (mandatory for all staff)

  • Adhere to the Children & Young People Safeguarding Policy, Code of Conduct and reporting any CYPS issues.

  • Responsible for the implementation of the CYPS standards as they apply to area of responsibility plus the development of actions to address identified gaps and monitoring their effectiveness.

  • Ensure that all Plan International partners, visitors and associates in his/her area of responsibility are provided with, are made aware off and have signed and returned a copy of the children & Young People safeguarding policy.

  • Inform the partners, visitors and associates that they must comply with the CYPS policy in all contacts and communications with children
