The Opportunity

PEAS has achieved great things in the last 10 years, and we know we can achieve even more in the next 10 years. So as we move into the next chapter, we’re looking for Head of Operations to join us on this exciting and challenging journey as we work to make the vision a reality.

Reporting to the Country Director, the Head of Operations will serve as an integral member of the Country Strategy Team (CST) and will be responsible for designing and delivering on PEAS’ strategic goals.

The role will work closely with the Head of School Network, Head of Quality Assurance and the Operations department leads based in Kampala, and PEAS global team.

The position holder will champion an organisation wide ‘value for money’ approach, driving efficiencies and effectiveness for PEAS’ impact pillars of Access, Quality and Sustainability both at the schools and support office levels with a strong focus on sustainability.

You will be responsible for Operations leadership and delivery in PEAS Uganda. In particular, the post-holder will lead the continued high quality delivery and further improvement of these broad functions.

This work will facilitate and support organisation wide culture strengthening and programme implementation thereby contributing to the achievement of organisational strategic objectives.

Experience & Qualifications:

Essential

Qualifications: A Business or Accounting degree and certification to relevant accounting bodies such as CPA(U), ACCA

Management Experience: Minimum of 5 years management and leadership experience in an operational and financial capacity – including managing departments of professionals with high levels of technical expertise and managing through others to deliver organisational improvements.

Policy creation & compliance:
Experience in creating organisation wide policies across finance, operations, and HR, together with overseeing operational adherence.

Experience with performance management: Experience in utilising sound leadership and management skills to ensure key deliverables are achieved on an individual, departmental and organisational basis.

Experience in financial management: Experience in budget setting, cash flow management and monthly management accounts reporting, together with overall management of financial systems and processes.

Knowledge of financial regulation: Knowledge and experience of financial regulatory requirements including taxation, the financial year end process, the creation of statutory accounts and liaising with external auditors and other stakeholders to ensure regulatory requirements are met.

Desired

  • A master’s degree in business administration

  • Familiar with non-profit finance and accounting regulations

  • Experience of working in Uganda or East Africa

  • Experience working with bilateral international donors

  • Problem solving and thinking strategically: Able to get things done by focusing on solutions as opposed to problems and able to see the big picture while demonstrating excellent attention to detail.

  • Values driven: Demonstrates PEAS values of effective, empowering, enduring, genuine & collaborative.

  • Excellent judgment and creative problem solving skills including negotiation and conflict resolution skills

  • Excellent English communication skills (both oral and written)

  • Excellent IT skills (i.e. Word, Outlook, Spreadsheets, google tools, etc).
