Peace Winds Japan Livelihood Officer-Dadaab/Fafi Mission, Jobs in KenyaAbout Peace Winds Japan Peace winds Japan (PWJ) is an INGO, dedicated to the support of people in distress, threatened by conflict, poverty or other turmoil.
With its headquarters in Japan, PWJ has been active in various parts of the world.
PWJ Kenya mission started its activities in Dadaab in February 2012 funded by the Japanese Government and in cooperation with UNHCR to support refugees in the camps.
From 2017 PWJ has extended its support to Host Community Youth of Dadaab and Fafi Sub County through ISSB (Interlocking Stabilized Soil Blocks) Youth Project.
This project seeks to empower youth with technical and business skills to enable them explore opportunities for self-employment.
As part of the project, PWJ also has trained 12 local resource persons through ToT (Training of Trainers) for entrepreneurship and business development in order to transfer the skills to guide local youth on entrepreneurship/business development and to provide them with mentorship for successful start-up in Dadaab/Fafi Sub-counties.
In 2020, those trained facilitators will continue providing business development training and mentoring for ISSB groups and local youth groups which have plan or strong interest for start-up and developing enterprises.
PWJ built a Business Centre in Dadaab Town in 2018 in where is managed by the selected youth and will be utilized as a hub for business development.
The Livelihood Officer provides overall management in coordination of the above mentioned entrepreneurship, business development training and mentoring for youth groups with business center management team, trained facilitators, and business consultant who will provide technical support and develop the program activities based on the local context.
In 2020, we will conduct a documentation exercise of success stories, good practices and lessons learnt on supporting youth enterprise to compile them in a report, therefore, the livelihood officer will develop a plan for the exercise together with the business consultant and PWJ team and facilitate the process.
Another role of Livelihood Officer is to strengthen partnership with livelihood stakeholders and responsible government department in Dadaab/Fafi sub-county to share progress and learnings of the project in relevant forums such as livelihood technical working group meetings to contribute in establishing effective supporting mechanism for youth enterprise in the region.
The officer is also expected to provide technical support on ISSB marketing activities.
Coordinate and manage ongoing entrepreneurship, business development training and mentoring for youth groups in close cooperation with business center management team, trained facilitators and business consultant.
Work closely with Business Consultant to monitor the activities of targeted youth groups and business support center, identify their needs and provide technical supports accordingly
Plan the process of documentation of good practices and lessons learnt of the project and implement the plan together with the team.
Develop and promote good relations with the livelihood partners and governmental officers at county and national level.
Attend meetings regarding livelihood and share progresses and learnings of the project with stakeholders
Provide technical support to ISSB marketing activities.
Knowledge, Experience and Personal Skills Required
Minimum of 5 years of experience in the field of business, entrepreneurship/livelihood/youth development/community development/marketing
In depth understanding of youth livelihood activities in Dadaab/Fafi Sub counties is an asset.
Diploma or advanced degree in a business management
Fluent English level – both spoken and written
Ability to organize tasks simultaneously and prioritize work
Excellent communication skills and team-building spirit
Ability to train and facilitate dialogue among a diverse group of individuals with various skill sets and work styles
Honest and responsible to meet the job’s demands
Willingness to adhere to and carry out Peace Winds Japan rules
