PATH seeks a Deputy Chief of Party to support and provide strategic leadership and oversight for an anticipated USAID-funded Social and Behavior Change (SBC) project in Uganda. The SBC project will result in the improved ability of individual, household, and communities to adopt priority behaviors.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Chief of Party with all aspects of project operations including technical oversight, human resources, recruiting and training staff, and developing an experienced team with distinct roles and responsibilities.
  • Provide technical guidance, technical assistance and capacity building in SBC efforts.
  • Monitor implementation of SBC activities in the field and ensure timely achievement of project deliverables.
  • Assemble and lead the technical team to carry out assessments and capacity-building exercises for local partners.
  • Produce and disseminate key project results through journal articles, presentations, posters, and other mediums, at local, regional and international forums to share experiences and best practices.
  • Develop/produce contractual deliverables (quarterly, annual, field project evaluations, etc.) in conjunction with other key staff and external evaluators.
  • Coordinate and liaise with key external stakeholders, including other USAID implementing partners.
  • Serve as acting Chief of Party when necessary and, in that role, represent the project before USAID and project stakeholders.

    Requirements

  • Master’s degree in public health, social sciences, international development, or other closely related field;
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in managing and providing technical support and capacity building to large complex international projects
    with significant SBC components.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the latest developments in advancing good/best practices in social behavior change desirable
  • Demonstrated experience in social sciences, public health and senior-level management position and experience leading large and complex SBC focused projects preferable
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in working collaboratively and effectively engaging with other donors, host country institutions, and international organizations;
  • Demonstrated capacity in managing for results;
  • A senior technical expert in at least one of these technical areas (FP/RH; HIV/AIDS, MCH, Malaria, Nutrition), gender and youth; with sufficient understanding of all these areas to direct integrated, collaboration and coordination efforts;
  • Working knowledge of and/or experience with USG-funded program management, policies, regulations, and procedures is desirable;
  • High level of interpersonal, technical, and analytical skills including a demonstrated ability to interact effectively and collaboratively with a broad range of public and private sector counterparts and other key stakeholders;
  • Proven record of leadership in the management of SBC programs and experience leading projects across a range of intervention types and/or health areas;
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and oral and written communication skills in English;
  • Excellent skills and experience in collaborative working relationships with senior level government leadership.
