Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, an officer must have: -

  • Served in the grade of Information Officer T or a comparable and relevant position in the public or private sector for a minimum period of the two [2) Wears;

  • Bachelor's degree in any of the following disciplines: Mass Communication, Communication Studies, Journalism, Public Relations, Social Sciences or any other approved equivalent qualifications from a recognized institution:

  • Post graduate diploma in any of the following disciplines, in the case of holders of general social science degrees: Mass Communication,
    Communication Studies, Public Relations, Journalism, or its equivalent and relevant qualifications from a recognized Institution;

  • A clear understanding of the working of the media and the socio-political environment in Kenya:

  • Good oral and written communication skills both in English and Kiswahili;

  • Advanced computer application skills;

  • Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results; and

  • Proficiency in website and social media management.

  • Note: Experience of working across a broad range of media including digital, print and
    electronic media will be an added advantage

    In addition to the above skills an officer must have the following qualities: -

  • Ability to articulate the ODPP's mandate, vision, mission and policies to elicit the desired change among its publics;

  • Good knowledge and understanding of media industry;

  • Creativity and innovativeness;

  • Ability to work under pressure:

  • Ability to work on well with diverse workforce;

  • Results oriented;

  • Self-driven; and

  • Meets Chapter Six (6) of the constitution of Kenya 2010; Integrity, Honesty and Accountability,

    Duties and Responsibilities

    An officer at this level will be responsible to
    the Senior Information Officer I for assigned Public Communication function; Specifically, duties and responsibilities will entail: =

  • Participate in the public communication activities as derived from the ODFP strategic plan to ensure the deliverables are met against set timelines and budget.

  • Supervise and appraise staff working under them to ensure they are effectively implementing communication strategies in line with the ODPP strategic objectives.

  • Implement internal communication strategies to ensure effective corporate communication of relevant information to staff to keep them updated on important ODPP news and information.

  • Gather information for updating the content for the website and digital media platforms to inform and educate stake holders on the ODPP achievements programmes and challenges

  • Implement ODPP service delivery charter to ensure quality services to the public operational

  • Provide support in branding ODPP events in order to enhance and sustain the ODPP Brand image

  • Participate in Corporate Social Responsibility programmes and Community

  • Engagements in line with the ODPP mandate to show accountability to the community.

  • Supervise stall working under him/her to enhance performance

  • Participate in the production of documentaries, bulletins and newsletters to
    sensitize, inform and educate stakeholders and the public on the ODPP mandate.

  • Provide content for the website, digital media pages to update stakeholders on the ODPP achievements, programmes and challenges,

  • Report on Court proceedings to create public awareness of cases being prosecuted by the ODPP.

  • Take and share photos of ODFP events and activities to inform and educate various stakeholders.
