NRC is looking for a Media and Communications Coordinator for our Country programme based in Maiduguri - North Eastern Nigeria. The purpose of the Media and Communications Coordinator position is to support the development and implementation of the media and communication portfolio in all NRC Nigeria program activities.

NRC initiated country operations in Nigeria in June 2015, in order to respond to the critical and increasing needs in the country. NRC currently has a full team based in Maiduguri and a coordination office in Abuja.

NRC is currently providing services across various sectors namely; Shelter and Non-Food Items (NFI); Water, Sanitation and Hygiene Promotion (WaSH); Livelihoods and Food Security; Information, Counselling and Legal Assistance (ICLA) and Education in order to address identified humanitarian needs.
The Media and Communications Coordinator reports to the Advocacy Manager.


  • Daily management of support Department Area Office, including line management of support staff - Finance, HR & Admin and Logistics
  • Member of the Area Management Group
  • Compliance with and adherence to NRC policies, guidance and handbooks and donor/auditor requirements
  • Provide input on operational support to the Area Plan of Action, and to coordinate and align operational support with programme plans at area level
  • Responsible for ensuring quality support to project implementation
  • Facilitate Area Support Budget, area level budgets, including support cost
  • Responsible for developing regular reports on Area level to Country Office and AM
  • Responsible for implementation of technical SOPs, guidelines and tools in Area (HR, Logistic/ICT and Finance)
  • Facilitate trainings for programme staff on finance, logistics and HR procedures
  • Responsible for technical capacity building
    of support staff (HR, Logistic/ICT and Finance)


  • These are skills, knowledge and experience that are important for effective performance.
  • Experience from similar positions in a humanitarian/recovery context
  • Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
  • Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
  • Knowledge about own leadership skills/profile
  • Fluency in English, both written and verbal.
  • Knowledge and experience from working in the BAY states · Fluency in one local language relevant to the context (Hausa, Kanuri or similar)
  • College / University, Bachelor's degree / Master's degree in relevant field to position
