Functional Summary

  • The IT Expert is responsible for the planning, design, implementation, operation and maintenance of the Local Area Network (LAN) and related network services (internet, E-mail, etc). This involves all aspects of hardware configuration, software and applications development, establishment and enforcement of guidelines/ principles for the operation of the NEWA Network Services, including safety and security of network, additionally, he/she will organize and maintain the gender resource center, access and plan for the documents required to organize the gender resource center.

    Duties and Responsibilities

  • Analyze, design, test, and evaluate network systems, such as local area networks (LAN), wide area networks (WAN), internet, intranet, and other data communications systems.

  • Interprets organizations IT policy to employees and enforces IT policies and practices.

  • Analyzes and resolves work problems, or assists employees in solving work problems,

  • Ensures work is performed within established policies, procedures, and standards.

  • Consults with data processing personnel on ways to expedite workflow and improve productivity.

  • Consult and advise with user departments to implement controls and schedules and resolve delivery problems.

  • Advise management on problems relating to data entry.

  • Responsible for data entry improvements in quality and efficiency.

  • Compiles, sorts, and verifies accuracy of data to be entered.

  • Perform network modeling, analysis, and planning.

  • Research and recommend network and data communications hardware and software;

  • Analyze data on network usage/traffic and complements/relocates network resources in order to provide the end-users with maximum reliability, security and to optimize the use of the resources;

  • Specifies the terms and conditions for the provision of periodic maintenance support through commercial contractors and monitors the delivery of such services;

  • Advises programmatic and administrative units of NEWA on issues relating to future development of LAN within the context of emerging industry trends.

  • Responsible in updating the website of the organization and work closely with the Public Relations Officer of NEWA.

  • Develop and implement strategies and principles relating to internal and external internet utilization, including liaison with the high-level internet authorities, and maintains the NEWA address registry;

  • Ensures the overall security of NEWA network services;

  • Liaises with information technology service providers;

  • Sets guidelines and principles for problem reporting, resolution and follow-up.

  • Advise
    management on evolving network requirements as identified through regular surveys of users’ needs and analysis of network usage statistics;

  • Assess and recommend enhancements to network services based on technological developments and information received from partner organizations;

  • Organize and maintain the gender resource center by updating the latest books and documents required for the organization

  • Assess and plan for documents required for the gender resource center

  • Prepare budget for gender resource center and documentation needs

  • Work on digitalizing the gender resource center

  • Create relationship with national, regional , and international similar center, universities, research institutions

  • Facilitate and technically support gender researchers in using the center

  • Create access to research journals, books on gender, gender related policies, laws, international agreement, conventions and frameworks


  • Supervision: work independently in routine tasks under the general direction of the research officer

  • Decision Making: makes relatively significant decisions with regards to work responsibilities and is accountable for them

  • Responsibility over data or information: has access to important and highly confidential information relating to the network

  • Responsibility over assets: computer, printer, server, office furniture, custodian of all IT related equipment.

  • Responsibility over staff: Guidance and advice

  • B.Sc in Computer Science


  • B.Sc in Computer Science



  • Practical work experience in documentation, planning and executing LAN

    Length of Experience


  • At least 4 years


  • At least 2 years

  • Talented in solving troubles with LAN and other computer related problems
