General Background

  • MCW (Miracle Corners of the World) is a non-profit organization founded in 1999 with the vision “Communities throughout the world achieve greater levels of education, improved health and increase economic security” and mission to address communities pressing needs by empowering current leaders and readying leaders of tomorrow. Based in New York, with partner organizations in Africa (Zambia, Sierra Leone, Tanzania and Rwanda), MCW offers the following: Community Development, Oral Health Care and Young Leaders programs. MCW also supports Partner Initiatives, including Human Rights and Pediatric AIDS Treatment for Africa (PATA).

  • In keeping with MCW mission which is to address communities’ pressing needs by empowering current leaders and readying leaders of tomorrow, Miracle Corners Zambia (MCZ) was born in 2009 in response to the local community needs to develop relevant skills and capacity toward social and economic transformation. Recently MC-Z redesigned its programs to suit the needs of the community. The new programs include the Enhancement of Women and youth Empowerment project, the IT in schools’ project aimed at promoting improved computer literacy in schools. The organization also runs a Literacy program for both the children and the adults. The redesigned program are scheduled to begin in January 2021.

    General Role Desription

  • The MC-Z Program Officer will work closely with the MC-Z Country Manager to oversee the day-to-day running of the programs being implemented in Chanyanya, the catchment area.

    The Program officer will fulfil the following roles:

    • Designing programs – Develop concept notes, proposals and project plans

    • Monitoring and Reporting – Oversees project implementation and reports against objectives

    • Ensuring Quality Assurance – Ensures MC-Z programs in Literacy and IT are in line with Ministries of Education and Community development standards.

    • Ensuring project officers receive the required technical support .

    Specific Role Description

    Instructional Leadership

  • Assists in the establishment of the Organization goals and objectives

  • Provides leadership in planning, implementing and evaluating instructional programs.

  • Provides leadership in project activities, innovation and community participation.

  • Manage the programs as required.

    Staff Personnel Management

  • Assists in the process of interviewing, evaluating, and selecting project officers.

  • Assists in the determination of community needs with regards to youth
    and women empowerment.

  • Assists in working with individual officers ‘needs.

    Program implementation

  • Work with the country manager on all programs and activities being implemented by the organization.

  • Oversee the implementation of all planned activities.

  • Maintain a schedule of all planned activities and strategies

  • Supervision of project staff in implementation

  • Projects monitoring and evaluation.

  • Lead in the documentation of impact stories

  • Take the lead in ensuring community engagement and participation in project activities.

  • Liaising and working with stake holders and other like-minded organizations.

  • Planning, budgeting and conducting programs focused on specific needs of the literacy learners, women and youth.

  • Monthly, quarterly and annual report writing and submit to the country manager/donors.

  • Any other duties as assigned by the supervisors or donors

    Staff Professional Growth

  • Participates in professional growth activities.

  • Participates in decision making, planning and evaluation of the project officers

  • Other duties as assigned by the Country Manager

    Requirements:

    Required Professional and Educational Qualities:

  • At least a Bachelor’s Degree in Social science – Development studies, Social work, project management from an accredited higher learning institution. :

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in the program implementation with at least 2 years’ experience in fundraising and resource mobilization. :

  • Demonstrate a reasonable level of computer literacy. :

    Required Personal Qualities:

  • Be an enthusiastic visionary, an encourager, and a self-starter with a high energy level. :

  • Demonstrate sensitivity towards staff, youths and community members and have the ability to interact effectively with them. :

  • Understand the importance of discernment, discretion, and confidentiality in the operation of the Organization:

  • Ability to collaborate with local government agencies

  • Ability to work with the women and youths.

    Special knowledge

    • Working knowledge of empowerment programs

    • Ability to coordinate women and youths

    • Strong organizational, communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills

    • Proven ability and willingness to work independently, prioritize and hold oneself accountable;

    • Strong mastery of Google Drive and Microsoft Office, particularly Word and Excel;

    • Fluency in English Bemba and Nyanja

    • This position is based in Chanyanya, Kafue.
