Ministry of Health Behaviour Change Communication Specialist- TB Program Jobs in Uganda Job PurposeThe Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) Specialist will offer technical support in the behaviour change communication assessments using qualitative methods working closely with TB/HIV and TB control programmes and other partners.
The BCC Specialist will review the Social/ Behaviour Change Communication (BCC) and community
engagement strategies, information, education and communication (IEC) materials and the gaps in S/BCC for TB/ HIV and TB prevention and control/elimination.
She/he will document the process, issues, challenges and recommendations for improvements/scaling up social and human behavior change health sector interventions in the country.
Provide technical support in the assessments of behaviour change communication in order to
develop culturally appropriate and harmonized S/BCC strategies and tools for the high-risk crossbordern populations.
Review the behaviour change communication and community engagement strategies, knowledge
base information, education and communication (IEC) materials, practices and the gaps in BCC for
TB/ HIV and TB control and elimination in the region with emphasis on the border region and among high risk populations and offer practical recommendations to respond to the gaps.
Support the development of research that inform Knowledge, Attitudes and Practices for prevention of TB.
Support the development of health promotion materials for prevention of TB/HIV.
Document the process, issues, challenges and recommendations for improvements/scaling up IEC/BCC and community mobilization interventions in the priority regions/districts.
Provide expertise in Behavioural Health Science methods for monitoring and evaluation of BCC, community mobilization and advocacy including specific components working with mobile populations and high-risk populations.
Support preparation of and participate in relevant project meetings.
Develop a stake holders and advocacy engagement plans geared towards prevention of TB in the Country.
Support the design, rollout and monitoring of community engagement activities
Provide support capacity building on BCC, community mobilization, advocacy for the national TB/HIV and TB programmes and partners.
Collect information within and outside the TB and Leprosy Division that will be used in
communicating news, lessons learned, best practices, and research findings to each relevant
Assist in technical reporting to the donor and other relevant partners, and in dissemination of results to wider audiences.
Ensure timely effective Health communications within the TB & Leprosy division and with
stakeholders at all level.
Establish effective relationships with TB/HIV programmes, partners, donors and communities.
Develop quarterly work plans in consultation with the Assistant Commissioners Health Promotion,
Communication & Education and TB & Leprosy Divisions and submit reports to relevant offices.
The applicant should possess a master degree in the following fields; Health Promotion, Health
Communication, Public Health or other relevant fields in Behavioural Health Sciences.
The applicant should also possess a Bachelors in Behavioural Health Sciences, Social Sciences and Development Studies. Training in communication is an added advantage.
Experience backed with evidence-based theory and research aimed at addressing public health sector behaviors changes at individual, community, and societal levels preferably in TB/HIV and TB control.
Experience in conducting qualitative study design, training of qualitative researchers, data collection, data analysis and write up is desirable.
Demonstrated working experience of 5 years in the field of Behavioural Health Sciences including
planning and programming for Social behavioural change communication and community engagement
for health issues.
Demonstrated Experience in the field of health communication for capacity building (training, TA, facilitation) for TB/HIV and TB control related programmes is added advantage.
Proven teamwork, partnering skills (facilitating dialogue and communications across diverse sectors, institutions, and geographic administrative levels)
Excellent writing, oral and visual presentation skills; training skills Ability to assess priorities and competently complete a variety of activities with a high level of accuracy and timeliness.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to initiate and implement activities with minimal oversight and supervision.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel etc.) and the Internet
