Key, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Teaching, examining and grading students at both Graduate and Undergraduate levels.

  • Supervision of research for Undergraduate and Graduate Students.

  • Providing teaching and research leadership in topical areas of (or related to): Plant pathology; plant nematology; plant diseases; microbiology; plant-microbe interactions; plant disease processes and epidemics; crop protection and plant disease management; development and applications of plant cell and tissue culture systems.

  • Mentoring of junior staff.

  • Conducting research in own areas of specialization and community outreach activities.

  • Writing proposals for attracting funding to the Department.

  • Performing any other official duties as assigned by the Head of Department

    Position (2)

  • Providing teaching and research leadership in topical areas of (or related to): Genetics; Genetic improvement of Plants; Molecular biology & Biotechnology; Molecular Evolution and evolutionary systems; Applications of genetic tools and analysis in solving societal challenges.

  • Mentoring of Junior Staff.

  • Conducting research in own areas of specialization and community outreach activities.

  • Writing proposals for attracting funding to the Department.

  • Performing any other official duties as assigned by the Head of Department

    Required Qualifications

    Position (1)

  • PhD in Plant Pathology from a recognized University

  • Knowledge of Plant Nematology, Plant-microbe interactions and plant tissue culture systems is an added advantage.

  • Evidence of at least four years of teaching experience in the
    University set up and two years of experience in research and supervision of students is an added advantage.

  • Must have an MSc degree in Nematology OR Plant Pathology OR Microbiology OR Crop Science from a recognized University.

  • An honors BSc. degree in Agriculture OR Horticulture OR Botany OR Biological Sciences.

    Position (2)

  • PhD in Genetics or Plant Pathology or Plant Biotechnology from a recognized University or Institution.

  • Knowledge of Plant Breeding and Crop improvement, Genomics, Agronomy and Quantitative genetics is an added advantage.

  • Evidence of at least five years of experience in research in genetics, genomics or plant breeding and other applications of genetics or genomics in problem-solving is an added advantage.

  • Must have an MSc degree in Genetics OR Crop Science OR Plant Breeding from a recognized University.

    Tenure of Appointment Permanent (Contract if 50 years and above)

    Age Limit 59 years
