  • LVCT Health is an established Kenyan NGO that is renowned for its implementation of HIV and
    health programs at scale in Kenya. Through its vision of Healthy Empowered Communities, LVCT Health is a leader in designing and implementation of innovative HIV prevention and treatment approaches, sexual and reproductive sexual and Gender Based Violence programs reaching the most vulnerable populations.

  • The organization works with government and
    other stakeholders at national and county levels.
    The USAID Stawisha Pwani is a 5-year program funded by the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) through the US Agency for International Development (USAID) to increase the use of quality county-led health services in four Coastal counties of Kilifi, Kwale, Mombasa and Taita Taveta.

  • The aim of the program is to strengthen county health systems with a focus on HIV Prevention & Treatment, Family Planning, Reproductive, Maternal, Child and Adolescent Health (FP/ RMNCAH) and Nutrition. The program will support the four county governments toward sustainability in quality and systems of health services. The program objectives are:

  • Increased demand for and access to quality HIV prevention services.

  • Increased demand for and access to quality HIV treatment services.

  • Use of quality FP, Reproductive, Maternal, Newborn, Child & Adolescent Health and Nutrition services(FP/RMNCAH).

  • Strengthened capacity of county health systems, local partners and communities to deliver quality health services.

    Job Purpose

  • The overall goal of this position is to provide strategic leadership, fore and oversight for USAID Stawisha Pwani’s communications, public relations and knowledge management. The STO CKM will undertake the planning, development and implementation of communication strategy; and develop or support development of technical and institutional communications documents.

  • The STO CKM will support internal and external communications across USAID Stawisha Pwani and perform tasks that will ensure the effective smooth running and growth of USAID Stawisha Pwani’s documentation, communication and
    dissemination.

    Responsibilities

  • Coordinate USAID Stawisha Pwani’s external and internal communications.

  • Develop and regularly update the USAID Stawisha Pwani Communications Strategy and plan.

  • Develop a work plan for implementation of the communication strategy.

  • Develop a plan for production of technical communication and other institutional documents

  • Ensure adherence to the Program Branding and Marking Plan and USAID guidance

  • Serve as the contact person for USAID on Communications. Maintain regular contact with USAID and participate in USAID meetings

  • Submit regular (weekly) updates to USAID on communications activities from the program and
    ensure timely communication of events to USAID

  • Act as USAID Stawisha Pwani’s media liaison person. Liaise with USAID on all media events in line with USAID policies and procedures

  • Support awareness creation and profiling of USAID Stawisha Pwani’s programmes, advocacy and
    campaigns through identification and utilization of appropriate media opportunities

  • Write, edit and oversee production and dissemination of USAID Stawisha Pwani’s quarterly and annual publications to a wide range
    of stakeholders

  • Ensure timely communication and dissemination of communication outputs to relevant target
    audiences

  • Translate USAID Stawisha Pwani’s information and products into formats and language appropriate for various target audiences including writing research for lay audiences.

  • Oversee editing, lay out and formatting of newsletters, policy briefs and other communication
    products to sufficient high quality editorial standards

  • Maintain an updated database of stakeholders for purposes of disseminating communication
    products

  • Support in preparation of media briefs, press releases, info packs and in organizing media and
    dissemination events liaising closely with USAID as necessary

  • Coordinate, facilitate and promote webinars and other USAID Stawisha Pwani events

  • Contribute content from the program to regularly update the LVCT Health website and social media platforms

  • Ensure appropriate consent is obtained for photographs and other communications products
    across all USAID Stawisha Pwani activities

  • Ensure photographs, videos, voice recordings and other communications products are stored securely and can be made accessible throughout the program period and beyond

  • Regularly scan the horizon for communications threats to LVCT Health and USAID Stawisha Pwani
    and work with the leadership to address them quickly and effectively.

  • Ensure sufficient communications support to LVCT Health events and overall programme work.

  • Ensure proper use and maintenance of communications resources and equipment

  • Mentorship to CKM Assistants/Interns

    Requirements

  • Advanced degree (or Bachelor’s degree and equivalent experience) in communications,
    organizational development or learning, knowledge management, international development, or related field.

  • Minimum 6 years’ experience in strategic and technical communications especially in global
    health and/or international development.

  • Experience managing knowledge sharing events including monthly seminars/webinars, workshops, conferences, and peer learning sessions.

  • Experience interacting with USG (especially USAID), including at least three years of experience working with a USG-funded organization.

  • Proven experience developing and implementing KM and strategic communication plans and
    conceptualizing and developing technical products and communications materials.

  • Excellent writing, editing, and analytical skills.

  • Proven experience developing website concepts and architecture, including some understanding of IT and its utilization for knowledge management and distribution.

  • Fundamental understanding of information content and associated issues.

  • Proven ability to develop effective working relationships with stakeholders at all levels.

  • Superior facilitation and interpersonal skills and demonstrated success in promoting multiorganizational collaboration.

  • Familiarity with key concepts regarding design and delivery of USAID’s Collaborating, Learning, and Adapting (CLA) approach.
