KDI is looking for a unique individual to co-lead its dynamic and growing Nairobi office.
A background in community development, social work, or education and a number of years in a leadership position managing teams for community projects in under-served areas is expected.
Interest and experience in the urban sector and the built environment would be valuable in this role.
More than any particular disciplinary background, the ideal candidate will have a passion for community development and the capacity to lead and develop a diverse and growing team.
Duties & Responsibilities
The Kenya Community Director oversees all community aspects of KDI’s projects; fundraising and cost management for KDI programmes in Kenya; and the co- management of 20 office staff, plus site construction teams and networks of many volunteers.
Overall direction, design and delivery of community engagement activities of KDI in Kenya as well as strategic leadership for community development work across the global organization;
Management and professional development support for community team employees, interns, and volunteers;
Support the further development and implementation strategy for connecting 10+ community groups and over 400 members to build financial, physical, and social support networks;
Facilitating seamless communication between KDI and community partners;
Designing and facilitating creative and engaging community workshops and trainings with the Community, Design, and Research teams;
Ensuring community records and process management for all community engagement and workshops including minutes, tracking of community decision-making, photo documentation, etc.
Engaging in impact evaluation design, data collection and maintenance of project statistics with support from the wider team;
Supporting community partners in accessing resources and expertise to promote organizational capacity building.
Significant experience as a community activist or public policy advocate
Proven ability to work effectively with diverse workforces, populations and in low income communities
Experience with budgeting, financial management, and fundraising
Experience conducting community surveys, data management, and meeting facilitation
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including public speaking, facilitation, and training
Strong negotiation skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel; InDesign a plus.
Spoken Swahili a strong preference.
