  • The Kenya Medical Research Institute (KEMRI) in collaboration with the University of Washington (UW) is conducting research studies in Kenya.

  • The KEMRI / UW research collaboration aims to conduct interdisciplinary, setting-specific research aimed at improving the lives of women and children in Kenya.

  • Specifically, our research strives to understand various infectious diseases afflicting these populations and testing interventions.

  • We are looking for staff who are motivated, committed, and honest to fill the following positions:

    Job Description:

  • The Study Nurse will be responsible for screening, examining, and enrolling participants in the study and conducting follow-up appointments with participants and caregivers. The study Nurse will perform physical exams on pregnant women, mothers and infants, collect health history, and ascertain other relevant information from mothers using standardized case report forms.

  • This staff member will also be responsible for management of any adverse effects of the study intervention and for collecting and tracking this event and protocol violations that may occur over the study period.

  • Finally, the Study Nurse will be responsible for submitting weekly reports to the study deputy coordinator summarizing indicators of study progress and communicating challenges and successes to the study deputy coordinator.

  • The Study Nurse will also assist with miscellaneous KEMRI/UW study activities including data entry, data query response, attend trainings, weekly reporting, on this and other related studies.

    Required Qualifications:

  • At least four (4) years relevant work experience;

  • Bachelors/Diploma in any of the following disciplines: Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing, Nursing,
    Kenya Registered Midwifery, Nursing/Midwifery, Nursing/Mental Health and
    Psychiatry or any other equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;

  • Registration Certificate issued by the Nursing Council of Kenya;

  • Valid Practising Licensing from Nursing Council of Kenya;

  • Proficiency in computer application skills from a recognized institution;

  • Demonstrated work performance and results;

  • Demonstrated competency in standard specimen collection

  • Phlebotomy experience in pediatrics

  • Strong interpersonal, counselling, communication, and listening skills

  • Must be able to work in a professional and ethical manner with competence, accountability, and integrity

  • Detail-oriented

  • Fulfill the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

    Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated track record working in busy clinic.

  • Experience working with infants.

  • Experience working with pregnant women.

  • Experience working with breastfeeding mothers and providing lactation support.

  • Research experience is an added advantage.
