KEMRI Doctoral Researcher -Carissa Study - Kilifi Jobs in Kenya



Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the collection, processing, compilation, and analysis of study data/samples, ensuring records and reports are managed in line with study protocols.

  • Network, collaborate, and partner with other departments, research groups, and CARisSA Study stakeholders, supporting project management to ensure quality outputs and timely completion.

  • Work with the Principal Investigator and Programme Researchers to identify sustainable funding opportunities and develop proposals to secure research grants.

  • Contribute to capacity building by developing and maintaining user‑friendly study learning aids and reference materials, and organizing/delivering short online refresher courses.

  • Mentor CARisSA Study researcher team by developing, implementing, and reviewing mentorship approaches for AROs, postgraduate students, and interns.

  • Disseminate and publish CARisSA Study research work through policy briefs, manuscripts, reputable journals, and presentations at meetings, conferences, and workshops.

  • Manage the CARisSA Study research team by supervising assigned members and participating in HR management issues.

  • Ensure full compliance with internal ethical and research governance protocols, policies, and procedures, as well as external legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements, through proper documentation and adherence at all phases.

    Vacancy Requirements

  • PhD in Epidemiology or related field from a recognised university (Mandatory).

  • Undergraduate degree in a health‑related field (including Medicine and Surgery) (Mandatory).

  • If medically qualified, registration (or eligibility for registration) with the Kenya Medical
    Practitioners and Dentists Board (Mandatory).

  • Minimum one (1) year academic and/or practical research experience from a reputable institution (Mandatory).

  • Strong quantitative skills and proficiency in advanced statistical programming (e.g., Stata/R or other software) (Mandatory).

  • Experience in conducting field/clinical research (Mandatory).

  • Experience working with external stakeholders and community health workers (Mandatory).

  • Demonstrated high levels of integrity and confidentiality (Ethics & Integrity).

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills (Skills & Competencies).

  • Ability to work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams and build strong relationships with collaborators (Skills & Competencies).

  • Excellent analytical skills with ability to deliver quality outputs within strict timelines (Skills & Competencies).

  • Strong team management and decision‑making skills (Skills & Competencies).
