Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe Safety and Security Manager Jobs in Kenya; The Safety and Security Manager leads the implementation of Johanniter’s security management framework across Kenya, Somalia, and Ethiopia. Reporting to the Country Director, the role provides operational support to national staff and project offices, ensuring staff safety, asset protection, and compliance with organizational and local requirements.
Responsibilities
Strategy & Vision
Support Johanniter’s values and contribute to global and country strategies.
Leadership
Uphold Johanniter leadership principles, fostering inclusive, accountable work culture.
Safety & Security Management
Develop, implement, and review safety/security policies aligned with Johanniter standards.
Conduct regular risk assessments in operational areas.
Support incident response, evacuations, and crisis management.
Provide analysis of evolving security trends and prepare high‑level reports.
Develop contingency and evacuation plans and ensure staff awareness.
Oversee physical security measures at project sites.
Coordinate secure travel arrangements with Logistics Manager.
Ensure compliance with local regulations and donor requirements.
Provide strategic analysis and recommendations across departments.
Serve as technical lead on safety/security matters.
Capacity Building
Deliver security training and briefings for staff and visitors.
Ensure availability and training on
emergency communication equipment.
Mentor field focal points and build local ownership of risk management.
Representation & Networking
Establish relationships with local security networks, authorities, NGOs, and UN agencies.
Serve as liaison with stakeholders to enhance staff access and acceptance.
Lead internal communication on security matters.
Advise Country Director on external security environment and implications for programming.
Safeguarding
Implement Johanniter’s Code of Conduct and address safeguarding risks.
Ensure policies are inclusive and non‑discriminatory, considering at‑risk groups.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in International Relations, Political Science, Development, Anthropology, Law, or Sociology.
Formal security qualification or advanced training required.
Experience
Minimum 5 years in safety/security roles with NGOs at field and country level.
Experience in high‑risk/conflict settings; Somalia experience required.
Strong knowledge of risk management standards and security assessments.
Experience training non‑security staff an advantage.
Skills
Ability to respond positively to challenges with creative solutions.
Strong analytical, communication, and leadership skills.
