Merti Integrated Development Programme ( MID-P) is one of Johanniter's partner in Kenya.
Merti Integrated Development Programme (MID-P) is a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) whose mandate is to work with pastoralists and agropastoralists communities in Isiolo County. MID-P works through implementation of innovative and culturally friendly projects for purpose of facilitating the community to attain desired development via sustainable livelihoods, sustainable Natural Resource Management, Local Governance, Institutional Strengthening and Youth Education and Empowerment. MID-P was formed in 2000 as a Community Based Organization and transitioned to National NGO in 2003. The organization has implemented various projects on good governance, peace building, social accountability, increase access to education, support and strength community projects and institutions for resilience and livelihoods, promote peace building and responding to conflict. MID-P secured a three-year funding for a project entitled- “Improving the First Responder Sector in Kenya” in partnership with The Johanniter International Assistance (JUH), Rural Agency for Community Development and Assistance (RACIDA) and St. John Ambulance. The objective of the project is to build the capacity of the First Responders in Kenya and develop locally owned ways of anticipating and making initial response to humanitarian crises with own resources while seeking for more support.
MID-P is seeking for a dynamic, qualified and suitable person for the position of Fundraising Officer to support the organization to increase its funding base and more importantly moving towards financial sustainability.
Essential Job Responsibilities
Lead in development of quality programming, designing, and program interventions for humanitarian and resilience programming for MID-P.
Support the establishment of Fundraising Unit in MID-P depending on its needs. The aim of the Fundraising Unit is to help the organization generate own funds through social enterprise and gradually reduce its dependence on funding from international donors for its operational costs. FO will be responsible for fundraising and partnerships development.
Support and mentor MID-P program staff by providing guidance in proposal writing and funds acquisition to diversify its funding sources, and move towards financial sustainability and enhance reputation for the organization as a first responder in the County.
Identify new potential income streams and produce strategies to access those funds.
FO will support programme staff develop funding priorities, strategies, action plans and milestones that are long- term, i.e. beyond the donor project periods.

FO will also work closely with consultants in developing the organization-specific business plans and drive further development during the incubation period.
FO will work with project consultants in running tailor-made campaigns, i.e. campaigns that are aligned with MID- P's vision and mission in terms of First Response in its context.
The post holder will support in the development of a feasibility and business development plan for the identified IGA/social enterprise by MID-P under the First Responder project.
The FO will engage the Government, donors, and other stakeholders in raising the profile of the First Responders in Isiolo County.
FO will also contribute towards the implementation and realization of MID-P’s 2020-2024 strategic plan.
FO will also be responsible for developing a fundraising action plan and targets for MID- P.
Undertakes donor mapping, joint proposal writings and pitching to donors in regards to organization’s strategic
Assumes responsibility for supporting various partnership initiatives of MID-P.
Monitor and track the progress of IGA.
Consolidate all the past proposals (successful and unsuccessful) and help MID-P draw learning from them.
Monitor the implementation of MID-P Strategic Plan 2020-2024.
Prepare a package/consolidate information needed for proposal writing and for responding to emergencies –First Response.
Support the Programme Manager in the preparation of the weekly, monthly and quarterly reports.
Document approaches, successes and lessons learned.
Build the capacity of the organization in matters Fundraising and Resource Mobilization. Training of the Board of Directors and the employees on their role of Fundraising and Resource Mobilization.
Support Department of Finance and Administration to facilitate procurement of goods and services related to the Fundraising.
Share at quarterly meetings experiences from fundraising campaigns, as well as from the overall process of establishing the Fundraising Unit.
Promote accountability, communicate expectations and provide constructive feedback informally and formally via regular one-on-one and performance reviews.
Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to MID-P and to not jeopardize its mission.
Knowledge and Experience
At least 7 years in program development, design and monitoring in humanitarian and resilience context in Kenya.
Experience working with NGOs/CBOs in civic engagement, livelihoods, social service, education.
Familiarity with institutional donors and grants e.g. EU, BMZ, USAID, ECHO etc.
A degree in development studies/management, community Development, Economic Development, Sociology or related field of study; with experience in program management.
Should have knowledge of quantitative and qualitative data collection, reporting techniques.
Understanding the dynamics of working with the community and Government.
Strong background and experience in fundraising and Resource Mobilization.
Demonstrable track record of Strategic Fundraising and successful program development.
Experience of utilizing the strength of an organization brand for charity/business development.
Proven track record of meeting challenging income targets.
Ability to work with different donors, actors, stakeholders and Government and maintain long term positive relationships with them.
Knowledge of building of Coalitions and Alliances as a means of fundraising.
Strong problem solving, facilitation, and communication skills.
Strong written and spoken English.
Ability to work without constant supervision and as part of a team.
Good knowledge of MS Office software such as Excel, Word, and Access.
