Jesuit Refugee Service Psychosocial Support Assistant Jobs in Kenya; This position will provide technical oversight and implementation of a comprehensive PSS-focused intervention. The incumbent will report to the MHPSS coordinator and the Kakuma Education Officer and work in collaboration with program staff. She/He will be actively involved in planning, monitoring, implementation, and evaluation of the Safe Shelter activities and takes responsibility and attention to individual beneficiaries’ concerns.

Job Purpose

  • Support the implementation of psychosocial support and mental health interventions within the programme department.

  • Ensure high‑quality, timely, and client‑centred psychosocial support services.

  • Assist in case management, community‑based psychosocial activities, referrals, documentation, and identification of emerging needs.

  • Uphold confidentiality, safeguarding principles, and effective support to vulnerable individuals and groups.

  • Fixed‑term contract for one (1) year, with possibility of extension subject to funding and performance.

    Child Safeguarding and PSEA Commitments

  • JRS has zero tolerance for sexual exploitation and abuse.

  • All staff must abide by JRS safeguarding policies, code of conduct, and responsibilities when working with children and vulnerable adults.

    Key Result Areas

    Program Quality & Cohesive Shelter Environment

  • Design and implement structured programs to improve cohesiveness and positive behavioural norms.

  • Facilitate standardized PSS programming across sectors.

  • Develop age‑appropriate activities to enhance residents’ safety and social well‑being.

    Staff & Caregiver Capacity Building

  • Conduct regular PSS trainings for staff to improve case management and psychological first aid.

  • Provide technical guidance and training to parents and community leaders.

  • Establish monthly PSS group therapy sessions for caregivers.

    Holistic Support for Vulnerable Children & Families

  • Offer individual and group therapy to caregivers and new parents.

  • Support vulnerability assessments and joint home visits
    for children with disabilities.

  • Facilitate community conversations to promote inclusion and acceptance.

    Evidence‑Based Programming & Organizational Learning

  • Document monthly participation and outcomes; produce analytical reports.

  • Contribute to lessons learned exercises and program adaptations.

    Person Specification – Essential Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in Counselling Psychology, Counselling, or Social Work with a diploma in counselling.

  • At least 4 years’ experience in humanitarian or development work.

  • Creativity and communication skills, especially with children.

  • Experience in community‑based or mobilization work in humanitarian contexts.

  • High professional ethics, flexibility, and enthusiasm.

  • Commitment to working with marginalized communities.

  • Ability to build effective partnerships and collaborate with team members.

  • Strong understanding of humanitarian relief and international development.

  • Discretion, tact, and confidentiality in dealing with stakeholders.

  • Experience working in multicultural environments with sensitivity and adaptability.

  • Compatibility with JRS values, mission, and vision.

  • High integrity, honesty, and confidentiality.
