Irish Rule of Law International Country Director Jobs inn Malawi; IRLI has progressively grown through the years, expanding its programme portfolio and networks. The organisation has recently completed its 2026–2030 strategic plan, secured multi‑annual EU funding, and is finalising a renewed five‑year proposal to the Embassy of Ireland in Malawi. With a broad programme base ranging from access to justice, institutional capacity strengthening, and legal education, IRLI seeks a Country Director to provide strategic, operational, financial, and people leadership to the Malawi programme. The role ensures high‑quality programme delivery, strong donor stewardship, sustainable growth, and effective representation within the justice, governance, and human rights sectors.
Roles and Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategic Direction
Lead the Country Management Team and promote participative decision‑making.
Guide the Malawi programme team, ensuring resources and structures are aligned with IRLI’s strategic objectives.
Sustain strong partnerships with local organisations, donors, and government stakeholders.
Support team development and explore new thematic areas.
Embed safeguarding and ethical partnership principles across all activities.
Lead strategic planning, programme growth, and diversification of funding.
Drive donor engagement, partnership development, fundraising, and proposal writing.
Advocacy, Stakeholder Engagement & External Relations
Lead IRLI’s engagement with key donors, particularly the Embassy of Ireland and the EU.
Maintain strategic relationships with justice sector institutions (Judiciary, Legal Aid Bureau, Ministry of Justice,
Malawi Police Service, Malawi Prison Service, Office of the DPP).
Represent IRLI in national, regional, and international forums relevant to governance, rule of law, and human rights.
Contribute to collaborative advocacy on access to justice, prisoners’ rights, torture prevention, GBV, and broader rule of law issues.
Grant Administration, Reporting & Compliance
Provide oversight of grant administration and donor compliance.
Review and finalise high‑quality donor narrative and financial reports.
Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant donor financial reporting.
Maintain effective grant management systems and reporting processes.
Prepare reports and updates for IRLI senior management and Board.
People Management & Staff Wellbeing
Foster a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
Provide leadership, supervision, mentoring, and performance management.
Support consistent application of IRLI policies and procedures.
Promote staff well‑being, safeguarding, and healthy work‑life balance.
Budget & Financial Management
Ensure strong financial oversight, internal controls, and donor compliance.
Work with Finance Manager and team on financial planning, budget management, and resource allocation.
Monitor expenditure and funding levels, identify match funding opportunities, and address funding gaps.
Strengthen organisational budget monitoring across restricted and unrestricted streams.
