IOM National Project Development and Policy Officer Jobs in Kenya


Context

  • Under the overall supervision of the Head of Kenya Country Office, and the direct supervision of the Project Development and Liaison Officer, the successful candidate will oversee the work of national staff of Mission Support and Innovation Unit in close collaboration with other relevant colleagues in Kenya Country Office (KCO) and will provide technical and programmatic support for project development and related activities carried out in KCO.

    Core Functions / Responsibilities

  • Supervise the work of project development/monitoring/reporting staff and deliverables within the IOM Kenya CO facilitating quality control of project proposals, reports and external material in the mission.

  • Verify that all projects of Kenya CO are in line with IOM’s strategic goals, KCO and policy priorities.

  • Draft IOM’s policy inputs on migration issues in the country and the region for submission to donors and other stakeholders.

  • Participate in the preparation of funding proposals considering national and donor priorities, United Nations Development Assistance Framework (UNDAF), and IOM’s country, regional and global strategic priorities and objectives.

  • Coordinate the timely and quality submission of project reports and new proposals in accordance with IOM and donor formats.

  • Organize and conduct regular training sessions and on job training for staff in KCO and sub-offices to build capacities on project development and reporting.

  • Liaise and coordinate with relevant stakeholders, such as national and local government counterparts, civil society groups, diplomatic missions, UN agencies and other national and international organizations and existing business networks on IOM work in Kenya.

  • Coordinate internally with all units and sub-offices in response to requests for information from HQs, Regional Office, donors, partners, and any other relevant stakeholders.

  • Write, edit and review documents both for internal and external use, as requested.

  • Support the role of IOM Kenya in leading discussions of the UN Migration Working Group.

  • Whenever possible, undertake visits to the field in coordination with programme/project managers to support project development and reporting.

  • Perform such other duties as may be assigned.

    Required Qualifications and Experience

    Education

  • Master’s degree in Political or Social Science or a related field from an accredited academic institution; or University degree in the above fields with two years of relevant professional experience.

    Experience

  • Experience in project development and project management, humanitarian and migration-related activities, report writing and liaison with relevant stakeholders;

  • Work experience in the region is an asset;

  • Good knowledge and experience of Inter-governmental and non-governmental organizations mandates and programmes in the humanitarian responses;

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills;

  • Excellent report writing skills;

  • Effective resource management skills and strategic and creative thinking.

    Skills

  • Computer/software literate, preferably advanced skills in Microsoft software.

    Languages

  • Fluency in both written and spoken English and Kiswahili is required.**
