In response to the significant humanitarian needs in the South Sudan, IMC offers comprehensive primary and secondary health care in emergency program sites including Juba, Malakal, Maban, and Wau.

Currently, IMC supports one County Hospital and 14 primary health care facilities. IMC health care site coverage includes: Juba PoCs, Malakal, Maban, and Wau.

As part of a country-wide ebola preparedness initiative, IMC supports in the areas of ebola case management and infection prevention/control with trainings across 20 medical facilities as well as with qualified medical staff at one ebola treatment unit in Juba.

In addition to comprehensive primary health care, IMC also implements multiple complementary programs including mental health, reproductive and sexual health, GBV prevention and response, and health outreach activities.
IMC also manages robust nutrition interventions across four operational areas: Juba PoC, Malakal, Maban, and Nyal. IMC also supports three midwifery and nursing colleges in South Sudan in Juba, Kajo Keji (facilitated currently in Juba) and Wau.

Job Purpose

The Education Coordinator will lead and manage IMC’s training technical unit. S/he will be responsible for the design and review of standard training packages in all IMC sectors of operation as well as ensuring the quality of all education programs and vocational trainings implemented by IMC, including curricula utilized at the three Health Science Institutes.

S/he will lead the design and implementation of IMC South Sudan’s education strategy for formal tertiary education programs, vocational trainings conducted as part of program activities, and on-the-job trainings for IMC staff.

Main Responsibilities

    Curricula design and review

  • Carry out needs assessment of all IMC education programs, including the three Health Science Institutes, and develop better management
    strategies for quality training curricula
  • Review all IMC training curricula within the health, nutrition and protection sectors and create standard training packages for use across all IMC operational sites
  • Design and facilitate routine training of trainers on adult learning methodology and best practices for key managers and other IMC staff who facilitate trainings at field level
  • Assist in organizing, preparing for, and implementing capacity strengthening activities for the organization.
  • Education strategy development and implementation

  • Guided by IMC country strategy, develop IMC South Sudan’s education program strategy
  • Participate in needs assessments for potential funding opportunities
  • Develop credible and cost effective proposals to secure funding for education activities
  • Representation of IMC in education related meetings at Juba level
  • Build strong relationship with education stakeholders and line ministries.
  • Engage in a variety of cross-organizational planning and implementation meetings.

    Training quality assurance

  • Design and implement monitoring and evaluation activities in regard to the effectiveness of the trainings.
  • Hold regular meetings with education staff, including the Principals of the Health Science Institutes for supervision and monitoring
  • Working with the M&E team, ensure all vocational and on-the-job trainings have pre and post assessments conducted
  • Ensure routine follow-up and refresher trainings are conducted for all trainings implemented by IMC at Juba and field levels
  • Support the continuous professional development of faculty at the three Health Science Institutes to ensure they are up-to-date on teaching theories, teaching methods and quality supervision and evaluation for students

    Compliance

  • Maintain strong accountability systems for IMCs programming, to minimize risk of divergence of assistance, as well as prevention of sexual exploitation and abuse and other do no harm aspects.
  • Ensure compliance with IMC & donor policies, anti-terrorism regulations, and other legal requirements in close consultation with Program Coordinators and HR team.
  • Actively promote PSEA (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse) standards within IMC and amongst beneficiaries served by IMC.

    Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field
  • Masters degree preferred
  • Extensive training on adult learning methods and training curricula design

    Experience

  • Three years experience in the field of humanitarian response at field or HQ level.
  • 3-5 years experience designing and facilitating humanitarian and health trainings.
