Job Brief:

Overview:

As Financial Coordinator you will ensure effective financial operations, strategy and accounting for the office.

Key Result Areas:

The success of this role is measured by the following KRAs:

  • IJM’s financial actions are strategic and carefully accounted for.

  • IJM complies with all financial statutes.

  • Effective management and mentoring of the Cashier.

    Roles and Responsibilities:

    Leadership and Management:

  • Assist leaderships with budget management, projections, major purchases and financial reporting.

  • Supervise, oversee and delegate activities to the Cashier.

  • Support the Uganda senior leadership team to know Finance department needs.

  • Communicate financial information to the Field Presence Team Leader, heads of departments and HQ personnel.

    Training and Development:

  • Conduct trainings for staff members to increase compliance with Finance policies.

  • Participate in IJM programs in professionalism and Christian spiritual formation.

    General Accounting & Statutory Compliance:

  • Post transactions accurately ensuring the right class of accounts, projects and grants are charged in both Uganda offices and HQ related.

  • Prepare request for funds in line with IJM wire transfer request for review and approval as well as confirm receipt of wires.

  • Select and manage relationships with banking institutions.

  • Support in the preparation of the monthly packet and other monthly management accounts.

  • Ensure supportive documents and files are ready for statutory external audit and other forms of audit by IJM and partners

  • Maintain confidentiality and security of all financial, privileged and/or sensitive information.

  • Ensure all corporate tax requirements on PAYE, WHT annual returns are complied with.

  • File corporate taxation returns as well as NSSF returns and documents in cooperation with the relevant local authority and follow up on all pending returns if any.

  • Manage payroll, gratuity and benefits for staff members.

  • Ensure
    grants are properly tagged and reports provided for review as agreed with the donors.

    Supervisory:

  • The Finance Coordinator reports to the Finance Manager.

    Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting.

  • Three or more years of experience as accountant, office administrator or similar position.

  • Computer literate with proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, Excel and QuickBooks.

    Technical Competencies:**

  • Understanding of the accrual-based accounting, double entry principles, and system based financial management.

  • Experience with foreign currency, GAAP accounting and IT management preferred.

  • Knowledge of local laws affecting financial reporting and control requirements.

  • Knowledge of grant management and reporting.

    Non-Technical Competencies:

  • Mature orthodox Christian faith as defined by the Apostles’ Creed.

  • Professional in demeanor, appearance, writing and oral communication.
