The Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) Program promotes sustainable, broad-based economic growth, food security and agricultural development worldwide.
Volunteer technical assistance from US farmers, agribusinesses, banking specialists, and other technical experts helps developing countries improve productivity, access new markets, build local capacity, combat climate change and conserve environmental and natural resources.
The F2F Program is funded by the US Agency for International Development through the US Farm Bill to assist developing countries, middle-income countries, emerging markets, sub-Saharan African countries, and Caribbean Basin countries to increase farm production and incomes.
IESC is recruiting for an experienced local F2F Program Country Director for its F2F Program in Kenya.
The F2F Program Country Director will have overall responsibility for coordination and implementation of IESC’s F2F Program in Kenya.
The F2F Program Country Director will develop collaborative partnerships within the financial services and agriculture sectors, identify host organizations for expert volunteer assignments, and execute the overall technical approach and activities for the F2F program in Kenya.
The F2F Program Country Director will supervise two F2F staff and in Kenya and report to the F2F Program Director based in the US.
The F2F Program Country Director will travel throughout Kenya from the office base in Nairobi.
The project is anticipated to run through 2023.
The initial period of performance with be one year with the possibility of renewal based on successful execution of the responsibilities outlined below.
The F2F Program Country Director in Kenya will be responsible for coordination of the following F2F program activities within Kenya:
Manage implementation of all F2F activities in Kenya.
Work with the IESC F2F team, partners, and USAID to design and implement Country F2F Projects.
Conduct and update agricultural and technical sector and subsector analyses with a focus on access to finance for the agriculture sector.
Identify potential country partners and host organizations including youth and women focused organizations
Develop technical and comprehensive volunteer scopes of work.
Oversee and facilitate technical volunteer assignments.
Provide pre- and post-assignment assistance to host organizations.
Oversee sound systems for monitoring and assessing impact from program activities.
Coordinate work closely and collaborate as needed with other stakeholders (i.e. country partners, other USAID- and non-USAID funded projects, etc.) and USAID country mission.
Ensure program deliverables are met and on schedule and that program activities are compliant with client agreements, government regulations and IESC policies and procedures.
Support development of country program technical deliverables including work plans and reports.
Oversee the financial relationship between the field office and the home office including submitting cash requests, submitting field expense reports, and reviewing country budgets and forecasting.
Support the monitoring and evaluation activities of the country program including contributing to the finalization and submission of program work plans, performance monitoring plans (PMPs) and all reports.
Recruiting, hiring and managing volunteer coordinator.
B.A. required, M.B.A. or M.A. in agriculture, finance, or a related and relevant field a plus.
Minimum of eight years’ professional experience in agriculture, agricultural development, agricultural finance or related field in Kenya
Experience in agricultural production and marketing including agricultural systems; farm and business operations.
Experience with agricultural and rural finance.
Experience building linkages between farmers and the private sector.
Ability to network effectively with Kenyan agricultural sector stakeholders.
Experience with ICT applications for agriculture and agricultural finance a plus.
Experience working with volunteers.
Experience working with women and youth in agriculture and or entrepreneurs, including capacity building
Experience managing USAID- or other donor-funded programs a plus.
Prior supervision experience
Ability to prioritize among multiple competing requests.
Self-starter, detail-oriented, thorough and well organized.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Well-developed interpersonal, collaboration, and networking skills.
Fluency in Swahili and English required.
