ILRI MSc Graduate Fellowship - Epidemiology and Control of Peste des Petit Ruminants


About the position:

  • Disease control in various livestock production systems depends on correct case definition of the disease to help in correct interventions. There are several respiratory syndromes that are often confused with PPR leading to misdiagnosis and poor control. The current ILRI project needs an MSc student to conduct a study on PPR co-infections associated with respiratory syndromes in small ruminants.

  • The study aims at identifying differential syndromes for PPR with an aim of providing a comprehensive insight into appropriate control strategies for respiratory syndromes in small ruminants.

    Key responsibilities:

  • Develop a project proposal on study of co-infections associated with respiratory syndromes in small ruminants.

  • Conduct field survey.

  • Perform laboratory analysis of samples by serology, culture, PCR and metagenomics.

  • Data analysis.

  • Reporting and publication of outputs.

  • Give seminars and presentations within ILRI as agreed.

  • Deliver in all pre-agreed deliverables based on the plan of activities developed at the beginning of the fellowship.

    Position requirements:

  • BSc, BVM or any Biomedical bachelor’s degree.

  • Must be registered in reputable university for an MSc and have completed course work. ready to begin the thesis project.

  • 2 years’ research experience working both in the lab and the field.

  • Demonstrated experience in data analysis.
