ILRI Consultancy- Characterization of Climate Hazards Affecting Livestock and the Adaptation Options in Eastern Africa - Home Based Jobs

  • International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) seeks to recruit a consultant to assess the variability and trend of sector specific extreme climate indices in current and future climates using high-resolution observational datasets as well as simulations from the sixth phase of Coupled Models Inter-comparison Project (CMIP6) and also summarize existing adaptation options and assesses their effectiveness to reduce the negative impacts of climate change in Eastern Africa region.

  • ILRI works to improve food and nutritional security and reduce poverty in developing countries through research for efficient, safe and sustainable use of livestock. It is the only one of 15 CGIAR Research Centres dedicated entirely to animal agriculture research for the developing world. Co-hosted by Kenya and Ethiopia, it has regional or country offices and projects in East, South and Southeast Asia as well as Central, East, Southern and West Africa. www.ilri.org

  • Drought/water availability (R20mm, SPI, SPEI,R95, R95PTot, CDD, CWD, RX1day) and
“Towards classification of livestock systems into homogeneous agro-climatological zones for East Africa based on length of growing period following Sere and Steinfeld (1996) and Thornton et al. (2009)”.

  • Under the adaptation options work package, find out what options are available to livestock producers in East Africa to reduce vulnerability to climate change and the effectiveness of the options using:

  • Participatory stakeholder workshops to identify adaptation pathways.
