Description of the Position

  • Under the line management of the Emergency Project Manager, and with the support of the HQ Protection and MHPSS Technical Specialists, you will be responsible for:

  • contributing to the overall planning for the COVID19 response emergency project, and leading the design and implementation of strategy and interventions on protection and psychosocial support, in close link with other relevant technical expertise and sectors of intervention, based on identified opportunities, needs and interests

  • providing regular technical guidance on protection and psychosocial support within strategies, programming and service provision

  • providing capacity building of HI staff, partners and frontline workers

  • ensuring a coherent and adapted approach for service providers and the wider humanitarian community, promoting disability, age and gender inclusion within emergency and development action

  • developing tools and resources in line with global and national frameworks, guidelines to ensure that services are inclusive of men, women, boys and girls with disabilities, including older people, supporting the widespread roll-out of tools and guidelines both internally (HI mission) and externally

  • Field visits to support teams and partners

  • advanced University Degree (Master’s level or equivalent) in mental health, psychology, social work or related fields from a recognized University or Academic Institute


  • at least 3 years of experience in the humanitarian sector, working in protection and
    psychosocial support responses

  • experience of training and technical supervision in the field of MHPSS with INGOs, in protracted crisis as well as in development contexts

  • experience designing and providing capacity development (training, coaching, learning, supervision etc)

  • good knowledge of concepts, principles and key considerations related to disability inclusion in humanitarian action

  • good knowledge of protection mainstreaming principles, GBV and CP international guidelines, including GBV IASC guidelines, Child protection Minimum Standards (CPMS)

  • experience in NGO and in emergency context

  • experience in Ethiopia or the region is an asset

  • project management experience, including M&E, would be an asset

  • strong capacity to represent the organization

  • capability to build capacity and provide technical guidance and coaching to HI and partners program team

  • ability to work under high pressure and without constant supervision

  • high capacity to organize his/her work, and manage priorities

  • strong interpersonal and intercultural skills

    Specificities of the Position

  • The position is largely field based with regular supportive supervision of activities, training and mentoring in the different sites/bases: Somali region (Liben zone- Filtu, Dolo, Deka Suftu woredas) Jigjiga, Benishangul Gumuz (Kamashi and Asosa), Dire Dawa city and Gambella (Gambella Town and Itang Woreda Region).
