Heifer International Project Officer - Gender Jobs in Kenya


Function

  • Reporting to the Project Manager - KEMDAP, The Gender Officer will ensure the KEMDAP Project achieves the Gender Equality results and is of high quality, mainstreams feminist approaches by documenting and utilizing learning and knowledge from within and outside of Heifer Kenya to develop/design and improve programs to achieve high impact.

  • S/he will provide Coordination, Technical support and guidance on gender transformative and feminist approaches to gender equality results and ensure initiatives are informed by a project gender analysis, that seeks to empower and increase voices of women, youth and Men in the dairy sector.

  • The Incumbent will work with the KEMDAP and thematic team in the fulfillment of the gender equality results, ensuring that the intervention methodology for the project is gender-sensitive, responds to the goals and objectives of the project goal and aligns with the Heifer’s Gender guidelines.

    Responsibilities & Deliverables

  • Supporting the development and implementation of KEMDAP project Gender Inclusivity outcome results (40%)

  • Business Development (25%)

  • Equality Results outcomes (25%)

  • Reporting, Documentation, Knowledge management and Learning support (10%)

    Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Gender & Development Studies, Sociology, Rural Development, Development Studies, or related studies. A Master’s Degree in related studies will be an added advantage.

  • At least 3 years’ experience in coordinating position in gender mainstreaming in at least two of the following areas: gender equality, women and youth empowerment and gender-sensitive enterprise development.

    Preferred Requirements

  • Excellent written, verbal English and presentation/communication skills.

  • Demonstrable ability to develop and implement gender trans-formative results outcomes, systems and plans, and applied knowledge and understanding of gender approaches and principles.

  • Experience in using collaborative, consensus-based and approaches to build partner skills and knowledge, provide training and foster effective and participatory decision making amongst partners meet evolving Project gender equality results outcomes.

    Most Critical Proficiencies

  • Excellent written, verbal English and presentation/communication skills.

  • A good understanding of and sensitivity to issues associated with poverty, hunger, agriculture and the environment, and knowledge of the context in
    which non-profit organizations operate

  • Proficient knowledge of word processing, spreadsheets, presentation tools, electronic mail (Microsoft Office preferred) and Internet.

  • Demonstrable ability to develop and implement gender trans-formative results outcomes, systems and plans, and applied knowledge and understanding of gender approaches and principles.

  • Experience in using collaborative, consensus based and approaches to build partner skills and knowledge, provide training and foster effective and participatory decision making amongst partners meet evolving Project gender equality results outcomes.

  • Demonstrated strong management, coordination, teamwork and planning skills with proven ability to function effectively with multiple gender programs/projects in both the public and NGO sectors.

  • Experience with and understanding of relevant donor frameworks and reporting systems.

  • Ability to work in a team.

  • Proven team leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to train and work cooperatively with a diverse staff, including field staff in various locations.

  • Constant face-to-face, telephone and electronic communication with colleagues and the public.

  • Working with sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.

  • Ability to manage and execute multiple tasks with little supervision while meeting sometimes inflexible deadlines.

  • Willingness and ability to travel.
