Help a Child is a Christian International NGO founded in 1968 specialized in Protection, FSL, and Peacebuilding with its headquarters in the Netherlands. Help a Child’s mission is to improve the wellbeing of children, their parents, and their communities living in poverty and crisis around the world and South Sudan specifically.
Help a Child has been operating in South Sudan for more than 10 years but it finally established its office in the country in 2018. The country office of Help a Child is based in Juba with one field office in Wau with wider operational areas covering, Pibor, Warrap, Western Bahar El Ghazal, and the Central Equatoria States.
Help a Child is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates for the position of Child Protection Officer to based in Pibor .*
Duties and responsibilities:
Manage and oversee the entire project implementation processes with the support of the colleagues in the field office in Wau
Plan and coordinate all project actions with colleagues leading protection, peacebuilding, and income generation components of this project for complementarity
Write and submit quality and timely monthly, quarterly and final reports to the Program Manager
Facilitate the process of procuring project materials in collaboration with the finance and procurement team at country and field offices.
Write project human interest and success stories for the project to be submitted along with reports
Build a strong relationship with stakeholders like the local government, NGOs, and UN bodies operating in the project area to enhance coordination and collaboration
Participate and facilitate the process of the FSL survey to be conducted by an external consultant in the project area to enable successful completion of the survey exercises.
Organize training, mobilization meetings with relevant beneficiaries and stakeholders in Bagari
Coordinate communication and facilitate information sharing among the project team, partners, project beneficiaries, and other stakeholders to strengthen community involvement, and support.
Compile activity level data as per project requirements and contribute to the preparation of reports.
Support MEAL system to ensure accessibility and reliability of the information.
Communicate key project information and results with community members, colleagues, and stakeholders.
Contribute to reflective conversations on ongoing project interventions.
Share insights and perspectives based on observations and interactions with community members, colleagues, and stakeholders.
Qualification and personal specifications:
Preferably a degree in Social Work, Education, Law, Humanitarian Aid, Development Studies or a related field/Social Sciences;
Certificate and/or training in (Child) protection and psychosocial support is an advantage;
At least 3 years of experience in community peacebuilding and Social work and/or protection work with an INGO;
Experience with working with community empowerment strategies; Experience in planning, monitoring and evaluating project activities;
Good coordination, facilitation, training and mentoring skills;
Ability to work with people from different levels of society;
Ability to cope with stressful, delicate and possibly unstable situations;
Strong communication skills, both verbally and written in English and the local language;
Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, interpersonal and cross cultural sensitivity;
Excellent knowledge and experience in MS applications, especially Excel, PowerPoint, MS-Word.
Excellent communication, organizational, time management, planning, and interpersonal skills.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and pays attention to details.
Ability to identify issues/needs, define solutions, and design innovative actions for
solving the needs.
Able to illustrate good integrity records and actions taken.
Good command of English and fluent in any South Sudan or duty station local language (Juba Arabic).
Excellent writing skills, budget planning, and budget controls.
