Job Description

  • Good Nature is a legume seed company founded to profitably move farmers out of poverty and into the middle class. We believe that the future of agriculture in Africa is disaggregated, with smallholders as the most powerful producers for local, regional, and global markets. We have designed our systems to be personal yet scalable. We have overseen consistent annual growth in our supply chain (currently at 4,720 small-scale seed producers and more than 10,000 small-scale commodity farmers), production, grower income (now 300% of baseline) and company revenue, as our growers learn and become more efficient.

  • We are now at a point of inflection: expanding beyond Zambia, adding new product lines and revenue streams, and strengthening our services to both growers and customers with investments in technology and integrated market access for customers of Good Nature Seed.

  • The Human Resources Associate position therefore becomes an integral position to support staffing, contract management, talent development, employee services, and departmental hiring plans for the company to strengthen its services to staff and employees.

    Reporting to: Finance Director

    Position Band: Band 3 Level 2

    Band Compensation: 9,000ZMW to 12000 ZMW per month (gross)

    Contract Duration: 12 months

    Position Purpose

    In the next 18 months, we will be embarking on a bold growth trajectory including:

  • Scale our innovative new sales strategy, Good Nature Source

  • Growing our leadership team and investing in talent development

  • Reaching more than 15,000 farmers with ‘Seed + Service’ offering of training and, market access

  • Reaching more than 250,000 farmers with quality seed

  • Expanding further operations in Central and Southern Malawi, Eastern, Central, Northern, Luapula and Copperbelt provinces.

  • Continuing and expanding our processing and warehousing facilities to cater for increased seed production

  • GNA is therefore looking for a self-motivated, hardworking individual to fill the position of Human Resources Associate and be part of the expansion efforts. There will be lots of opportunity for professional growth in this role for someone who is driven to help Good Nature Agro grow and make an impact for farmers

  • Your role as Human Resources Associate relies heavily on your abilities as a leader to coordinate, motivate and manage people, projects and activities. In this role you will be reporting weekly and monthly to the Finance Director and will be required to: .

    Responsibilities

    • Maintain employee records (electronic and paper), ensuring that new hires, departures, promotions and job changes are all filed and maintained accurately. Maintain a thorough knowledge and understanding of the HR database for ease of information access by department heads.

    • Insure confidentiality for all personal data and employee business records Support directors in required government registrations for employees, including immigration paperwork and gratuities.

    • Deliver quarterly reports to the Director of Finance on HR performance and key metrics, as well as participate and give presentations in GNA management meetings.

    • Ensure compliance with employee regulations, and support documentation and requirements for the government.

    • Participate in the payroll process, providing
    data on employee attendance, performance-based bonuses, employee concerns and questions, etc.

    • Participate in the farmer and extension agent payment process, confirming contract details.

    • Administer the hiring of new employees in collaboration with hiring managers and directors, including offer letters, contract documentation, onboarding scheduling, housing and travel.

    • Monitor disciplinary and probationary timing and documentation, when needed.

    • Uphold the SOP’s of HR processes and advise management when necessary to ensure compliance with policies and procedures.

    • Monitor company inbox for employment requests and applications, providing data to the correct teams and hiring managers.

    • Be available for employees’ ad hoc questions, and manage the employee suggestion box.

    • Support talent development through data management of key performance indicators and professional development plans as they relate to bonuses, facilitating requests and payments for continuing education, and coordinating internal and external professional training opportunities for employees.

    • Coordinate with directors to train managers on best practices and standard operating procedures in HR

    • Participate in planning discussions on how HR can be a valuable partner to the company, contribute new ideas, and collaborated with managers on building impactful teams.

    • Coordinate the process for farmer contracts and farmer payments, including extension agent personnel management.

    Desired Qualifications

    • Minimum of a Degree in Human Resources Management

    • Minimum 2 year of experience working in HR management or Administration role

    • Must be a registered and active member of the Zambia Institute of Human Resource Management

    • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Word; Excel)

    • Knowledge of payroll and HR software will be an added advantage
