  • Most of GIZ’s work is commissioned by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

  • In addition, GIZ Uganda works on behalf of development agencies like the European Union, DFID and USAID.

  • The Cooperation currently focuses on Renewable Energies and Energy Eficiency; Rural Development, Water and Sanitation; and Good Governance and Civil Society. In addition, GIZ provides support through the “One World − No Hunger’’ Initiative, specifically in promotion of responsible and sustainable fisheries, nutrition− sensitive potato value chains and responsible land policy in Uganda.

  • Country wide, there are also ongoing projects in climate change mitigation, skills development as well as supporting refugee hosting districts in Northern Uganda both nationally and internationally, GIZ Uganda supports the Nile Basin Initiative (NBI) in planning and coordinating sustainable management of water resources in the Nile Basin.

  • GIZ is now recruiting for 3 Drivers and 1 DriverƒAdministration Assistant for Kampala and up−country ofices.

    Position 1

    Job Specification for Positions 1 to 4

  • Reports need for service and carries out minor repairs

  • Reports any incident whilst off duty that may affect hisƒher

    Key Responsibilities

  • Safely and responsibly performing all oficial travel using oficial vehicles.

  • Regularly servicing and looking aGer oficial vehicles.

  • Taking account of all available information on road conditions, accessible routes and locations.

  • Immediately reports all involvement of the project or ofice vehicle in accidents, including minor accidents, damage, loss or theG of vehicle fittings.

  • Monitors and reports the need to renew car insurance incl. oficial cars used by other programme personnel

  • Compiles driver reports on condition of vehicle driving licence entitlement, as well as any newly known health problems that may affect hisƒher ability to drive

  • Assists in andƒor carries out other activities and any tasks as
    assigned

  • Undertakes further job training related to hisƒher position and duties, if required.

    Position 2

  • Running oficial errands and assisting with other ofice work.

    Required qualifications, competences and experience

    Title Driver

  • (6 months duration with possibility of
    extension)

    E4D − Employment and Skills for Eastern Africa
  • Strictly follows GIZ rules including GIZ safety standards.

  • Completes the vehicle log correctly and conscientiously in accordance with GIZ standards.

    In this context, the Driver fulfils the following tasks:

  • Driving

  • Provides passenger transport in an oficial car for ofice,

  • Wears proper attire

  • Serves all passengers in a friendly manner

  • Takes team members to the field (travelling to all regions in Uganda is necessary on a regular basis)

  • Runs errands for the programme e.g. delivery of lettersƒmessages, payment of bills, and makes minor purchases as directed

    Qualifications

  • Secondary school educationƒ Advanced secondary Education.

  • Holds a valid driver’s licence.

  • Defensive Driving skill is an added advantage.

    Professional experience

  • At least 1−3 years’ work experience as a driver with

    Position 3

  • project or programme staff, oficial visitors and guests.

  • Runs errands for the project, programme or ofice, e.g.

  • Is responsible for oficial documents in vehicle

  • Is responsible for a special petty cash and submits vouchers references

  • no major accidents in the past 3 years.

  • Promotion of Renewable Energy and Energy
    Eficiency Programme (PREEEP) sending letters and messages, paying bills and buying
    smaller quantities of ofice supplies.

  • Helps with transporting goods.

  • Completes the vehicle log correctly and conscientiously in accordance with GIZ standards.

    Maintenance of car for accounting on a monthly basis

  • Does not use, at any time, the car for hisƒher own private purposes. Such misuse of the vehicle is considered a serious misconduct, and will immediately lead to a warning and may result in dismissal

  • Good knowledge of both spoken and written English language.

  • Discipline and punctuality.

    Position 4

  • Regularly cleans the interior and exterior of the vehicle(s) regularly

  • Uses all available information (including current radio news on trafic conditions) to update daily knowledge of road generally.

  • Appropriate appearance and attire (possibly uniform,

  • Responsible Fisheries Business Chain Project
    (RFBCP)

  • Checks oil, water, brakes and brake liquid, tyre pressure, battery levels and the entire vehicle, monthly or every 5,000 km (whichever is first), headlights, brakes, bodywork for dents etc.

  • Responsible for the project vehicle documents and their good condition, keeping a vehicle log and recording monthly maintenance conditions, current passable routes and locations, and shares this information with other ofice drivers

    Other duties/additional tasks

  • If there is no outside driving activity, sƒhe stands by in the ofice, supports other colleagues in case of need, and does
    other ofice work as assigned friendly manner with all passengers).

  • Ensures unrestricted availability of vehicles at all times and reports restrictions immediately.

  • Willingness to upskill as required by the tasks to be performed and corresponding measures are agreed with management.
