General Manager, Finance and Treasury Management Jobs in Kenya

Job Description

  • Reporting to the Managing Trustee, the General Manager (Finance & Treasury) will be responsible for planning, coordinating, leading and controlling the Fund’s financial management, accounting and treasury management activities. He /She will also ensure that all assets and liabilities of the Fund are properly accounted for, reconciled and financial reports are properly consolidated in line with leading practice accounting principles and standards.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Keep abreast of local and global leading practices and trends and make appropriate recommendations to the Managing Trustee and other departmental heads.

    • Formulate and ensure implementation of leading practice financial management strategies for the Fund

    • Coordinate a bottom-up development of the Fund’s budget, including design of the relevant tools and templates.

    • Consolidate the budget and prepare relevant reports.

    • Oversee the timely preparation and distribution of financial and management accounting reports of the Fund to the concerned stakeholders

    • Provide financial analyses and models as needed, in particular for capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.

    • Ensure that all financial transactions are processed accurately, in a timely manner, and in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.

    • Develop, implement, and maintain best practice processes and controls with respect to transaction processing.

    • Manage, oversee, and act as backup for processing all of the following transactions: payroll, accounts payable, revenue and expenses, fixed assets, cash, bank reconciliations, and allocations.

    • Develop and maintain strategic relationships with key banks and other financial institutions.

    • Oversee corporate treasury/fund management activities including reporting and analysis to determine commitments/ obligations and investment on short or long-term basis.

    • Monitor the performance of the Fund’s liabilities such as leases, insurance summaries, contingencies and loan expectations.

    • Identify, develop, deploy and retain talented staff including completing performance appraisals, personal development and succession plans effectively and on time in accordance with the established performance management process.

    • Liaise with the Information Technology and Quality Management departments to ensure the right level of process automation and quality standards are embedded in operations.

    • Effectively and efficiently execute any other duty assigned by the Managing Trustee.

    Job Requirements/specifications

    • Minimum of ten (10) years’ work experience with at
    least five (5) years’ relevant experience at senior management role.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Commerce, Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Accounting or any other related discipline.

    • Certified Public Accountant - CPA (K) or its equivalent.

    • Master’s degree in any of the above fields or a related discipline.

    • Member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya - ICPA-K.


    • Knowledge and experience of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS).

    • Thorough knowledge of national and international financial laws, regulations and processes.

    • Excellent knowledge of specific statutory, financial and taxation laws and regulations.

    • Knowledge and experience of budgeting, accounting principles, financial markets as well as analysis and reporting of financial data.

    • Knowledge and experience of management of revenue and expenditure in a large organisation.

    • Demonstrable actuarial knowledge, analytical and problem-solving skills in relation to risk management.

    • Knowledge and experience of financial modelling and practice.

    • Experience in financial planning, monitoring and reporting.

    • Knowledge of reconciliation and account analyses.

    • Knowledge and experience in management of assets and liabilities.

    • Understanding of cash flow management and risk analysis.

    • Strong leadership, communication, alliance building and presentation skills.
