  • Kwale International Sugar Company Limited is one of the largest and fastest growing sugar factories in Kenya.

  • The company wishes to fill the following position with a qualified and competent individual to report to the EHS Manager and to be deployed in the EHS Department:

    Position Fire Marshal

    Primary Responsibilities

  • Supervising and coordinating activities of firefighting personnel at the company and inspecting equipment and premises to ensure for adherence to the fire regulations.

  • Inspecting and ordering of replacement and servicing of firefighting equipment such as extinguishers, hydrant systems and sprinklers.

  • Issuing permits for storage and use of hazardous or flammable materials.

  • Inspecting premises to detect combustion hazards.

  • Ordering and directing fire drills.

  • Directing firefighting and rescue activities according to knowledge of accepted procedures.

  • Leading investigations in determining the cause of a fire, as well as determining if there is possibility of arson.

  • Educating employees about fire safety and fire.

  • Ensuring that fire alarms are checked for functionality on a daily basis and a log maintained for same in order to enhance firefighting preparedness and alertness.

  • Ensuring that high standards of hygiene and orderliness in housekeeping is maintained at a high level.

  • Coordinating activities of employees engaged in maintenance and repair of fire – fighting vehicles, equipment and buildings. Also inspecting of firefighting equipment and facilities to define repair or malfunctioning units’ physical structures.

  • Inspecting and testing sprinkler or hose valves, pipes, hoses and
    hose houses of fire apparatus at the plant, offices and similar structures and fills out inspection reports on conditions of valves, pipes, tanks, pumps and alarms for superior maintenance service.

    Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of goals and objectives of the company’s fire control programs.

  • Considerable knowledge of effective fire prevention techniques.

  • Effective techniques and methods of fire suppression.

  • Skills in methods and techniques of firefighting.

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

  • Ability to teach fire prevention and safety techniques to firefighters and other personnel in the company.

  • The successful candidate must have a Certificate in Fire Safety management and three (3) years relevant work experience at the level of Deputy Fire Marshal and above in a large manufacturing plant.
