Fairtrade Africa Proposal for Fairtrade Africa Online Learning Platform Jobs in KenyaOnline Learning Platform The project’s mandate is to empower the staff and FTA members in four (4) regional networks – Eastern & Central Africa; Southern Africa; Western Africa; and the Middle East and North Africa.
The project aims to develop intellectual, conceptual and consulting capacities of Fairtrade Africa staff in a manner, that enables them to provide quality education, training, consultancies and information to members.
This approach is a pilot which will grow with the needs and desires of staff and members in line with changing Fairtrade certification needs and scope of producer support mandates.
The E-Learning Application Platform shall contain a series of Fairtrade standards and related educational lessons as described in the‚ Education Toolkit‘ on Pre and post-certification support skills for Fairtrade Africa staff, delivered via interactive digital content, gamification, editorials and other effective e-learning methods in a Learner- friendly and non-judgmental manner.
The E-learning Application Platform shall be linked to the FI homepages of Fairtrade producer library.
Within a pilot workshop, the content of the application will be tested to optimize the usability and Learner- friendliness of the application.
How is Coursework Organised?
Each training course is composed of three successive levels (intermediate, advanced and proficient) with different educational activities:
modules (course contents) which are linked to training objectives,
a qualifying test.
Fairtrade Africa staff, with the guidance of their line managers, will, therefore, have to establish efficient study methods before they start the training, in order to be as organized and successful as possible, bearing in mind that there will be a final qualifying test to reward their efforts with a digital certificate. The content of the different training modules shall be made as dense as possible, to enable staff to acquire an excellent knowledge of the various concepts and theories broached in the course if they are to pass the qualifying test.
Terms of Reference (TOR)
The detailed ToRs of this assignment includes:
Technical Bid Details Development of an E-learning Application for Android and PC which must be able to be used online and offline
Develop and design an effective mix of learning methods (gamification, videos, tutorials, multiple-choice questions etc) provided within the application to enhance the learning motivation of the users which appeals in particular to youth and adolescents
Bidder must provide details of tools and technologies to be used and why the chosen combination is best suited for the project
Bidder must consider platform security and demonstrate the same within the proposal
The application must be linked to further learning content to deepen knowledge of users if demand arises such as literature, laws and conventions, Fairtrade Africa etc
Develop and integrate a test/examination function after every lesson to test learner’s knowledge and enable the user to access the next lesson after passing the test (i.e Enable a conditional release feature). Also integrate end of all lesson exam like which test all the modules taken.
Integration of learning progress monitoring and statistic tools embedded in the application to test knowledge monitor most requested and view contents and measure change over time
Facilitate a one-day testing workshop for future owners of the application to determine if
Lessons and content are adequately covered to fit the context of the Fairtrade standards
Gathering input from end-users for the look and feel of the content of the app
Commenting on the format of lessons & user interface design
Integration of feedback in the final E-Learning Application
Co-Facilitation of a half-day kick-off workshop of the learning application for all Fairtrade Africa staff and key stakeholders of this project
Develop at least two alternative financial sustainability business models for the app considering integrated popular non-cash payment functions in Kenya such as Mpesa (Payment Gateway)
Advise on the infrastructure specification for the smooth implementation of the E-Learning Application Platform in rural settings in which Fairtrade Africa is currently operating
Give Technical Support of 40 working hours after kick-off date of the digital learning application to fix errors occurring and general maintenance and support service for a timeframe of 12 months after the rollout of the application
E-Learning Application and Content must be developed in English and French

Time Frame and Location
The assignment should be carried out within a maximum period of 90 days within the following schedule:
The consultant is expected to spend a reasonable number of working days in the premises of the project in Nairobi – Westlands and at the regional offices to grasp the layout and format of existing materials and adapt her/his own methodology accordingly.
Qualifications (FOR FIRMS AND THEIR STAFF AND INDIVIDUAL CONSULTANTS **
Academic University degree (at least Bachelors) in, Computer Science, IT, Business Information Technology or related fields;
At least 5 years’ experience in Instructional Design for E-Learning Application Platforms
Proven experience in the development of E-learning Application compatible with various platforms (Mobile; on-line and off-line)
Proven expertise in communication, presentation and leadership especially in TOTs Proven excellent writing, editing, and oral communication skills in both French and English
Understanding of legal provisions in matters relating to Copy Rights: All materials relating to the assignment in soft or /and hard copies will be the property of Fairtrade Africa and the consultant will be expected to give up all rights of authorship, use, reproduction, possession or/and alteration of the materials developed and published through the facilitation of GKCD.
A demonstrated financial capacity to undertake the job using own resources until an agreed milestone is achieved as the instalment payments will be based on achieved milestones
