Background:

  • The Ethiopian Orthodox Church Development and Inter- Church Aid Commission (EOC-DICAC) is established as the development wing of Ethiopian Orthodox Church, in 1972 by legal notice No.415 to respond to development and humanitarian gaps and to address the needy population in the country.

  • Since its establishment, EOC-DICAC has been engaged in various types of multi-sectorial development and humanitarian projects and programs with wide range of intervention areas all over the country. EOC-DICAC is currently looking for candidates in the following job posts for a project entitled “capacity building for women in leadership and advocacy’’:

    Job Description:

  • The Head of Communications is responsible for leading strategic communications for projects and the organization and serves as the official spokesperson for EOC-DICAC. The post holder will be the public face of the organization, leads strategic and an external communication work, including but not limited to crisis communication.

  • She will develop, adapt and manage communication and media strategy, guidelines, plans etc. The position holder will produce high level and high quality communication products such as statements, briefs, case stories, reports etc. to be shared internally within the EOC-DICAC.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with the key communication office staff, coordination office staff, other medias to flesh out and implement the internal and external communication strategy and guidelines;

  • Develop and rollout a specific, time-bound plan of the internal and external communications strategy;

  • Monitor the progress of the implementation of the communications strategies and adapt it to new opportunities;

  • Develop and roll out annual communication and media plan for the Communication office with /through the involvement of relevant staff;

  • Leads on the development of humanitarian communication packs for specific categorized responses including but not limited to proactively writing reactive statements, media briefs, proactive press statements and guidelines for sensitive humanitarian communication;

  • Organize weekly updates to senior management on media coverage of investment issues;

  • Support the development and production of key publications, including annual reports, quarterly newsletters, weekly bulletins, print and online articles, news summaries, brochures, press releases, on the EOC-DICAC web site, etc;

  • Contextualize and package key messages, talking points and briefing notes;

  • Drive the preparation of regular and ad-hoc reports on the status and impacts of major activities of the Commission for internal consumption and external stakeholders;

  • Manages website, including keeping content up to date and appropriate, making improvements to functionality and advising colleagues and stakeholders on maximizing its potential;

  • Implement and expand a social media strategy to support EOC-DICAC’s investment promotion work, and disseminate its activities and results;

  • Monitor the social media accounts of the commission;

  • Organize public events and outreach activities;

  • Liaise with local media to help ensure the wide and accurate publication of EOC-DICAC’s news and messaging.

  • Provides capacity building trainings and technical assistance to subordinates, departments, services, coordination and project staff pertinent to her job.

  • Facilitates the transformation of existing communication to a modern system with a system of recording and tracking
    communications.

  • Participates in planning, implementation, M&E activities that need her professional input so as to enable EOC-DICAC attain its mission, goals and help projects to improve efficiency and effectiveness.

  • Coordinates the preparation, review and endorsement as well as the management of IEC/BCC, advocacy and other communication and materials.

  • Provides techncial support to departments & services as well as coordination & project offices on the preparation/production of documentary materials, IEC/BCC and other advocacy materials.

    Job Requirements:

  • Masters degree in social science, human rights, development, international relations, linguistic, journalism/mass communication and media;

  • At least 5 years of experience in leading communications teams;

  • Knowledge of and/or direct work experience in the non-profit sector;

  • Experience in developing and implementing communications improvement strategies;

  • Excellent representational skills with a proven track record of influencing key audiences;

  • Demonstrated ability to think strategically, to analyze complex information and offer creative, practical and effective solutions;

  • Excellent influencing and negotiation skills, including an ability to deal with people at all levels with credibility, tact, and diplomacy;

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills, and an ability to produce good quality documents, information for a variety of audiences and communicate good practices;

  • Competencies in utilizing technological solutions for communication

  • Strong inter-organizational skill such as networking, negotiation and communication.

  • Willing and able to travel time to support field teams as security permits

  • Ability to produce high-quality communications products and services under tight deadlines

  • Excellent English skills, both verbal and written, required.

  • Shall have at least Word and Excel software skills.

  • NGO experience is a plus.

  • Ability to adapt and meet deadlines as well as work with different types of staff of EOC-DICAC.

  • Ablility to perform dueties and responsibilities under stress condition.

  • Who is willing to perform other activities as instructed by her immediate supervisor.
