    Job Description:

  • Reporting into the Snr Ops Manager and General Manager, the Environmental Manager provides strategic input, specialist advice and associated tools, processes as well as methodologies enabling integrated environmental management across De Beers Marine.

    Your role will:

  • Analyse business processes by in turn evaluating risks, and advising on appropriate environmental management actions.

  • Maintain environmental compliance obligations registers.

  • Develop and implement approved Environmental Management Programmes, as well as policies, procedures and plans.

  • Maintain the company's ISO14001 Environmental Management System (EMS).

  • Examine in detail and advise on the impact of legislation, Group requirements and stakeholder views.

  • Keep abreast of global trends and environmental standards of best
    practice.

  • Gather, peruse and interpret environmental performance data.

  • Conduct regular audits of environmental management processes.

  • Ensure that suitable environmental assessment and research practices are adopted.

  • Investigate all significant environmental incidents and associated follow up actions, whilst implementing actions to prevent future incidents.

    Qualifications:

    Educational qualifications:

  • Recognised four year Bachelor's degree or equivalent in an appropriate degree (e.g. Natural, Environmental, Social, Earth Science)

    Additional requirements:

  • Strong computer skills

    Role-specific knowledge:

  • 6 – 8 years’ post qualification experience in Environmental Management

  • Experience in the implementation of environmental management systems

  • Advanced knowledge of environment principles and processes (including biophysical, socio-economic and heritage aspects) and the interrelation between environmental components

  • Knowledge of relevant legislation (maritime and mining experience will serve as an advantage)

  • Knowledge of business, social and bio-physical environmental philosophies, impact assessment and tools, and application thereof to evaluate risks

  • Knowledge, skill and ability to design, implement and maintain management programmes (including research and monitoring) and evaluate efficiency, adequacy and suitability of these

  • An advanced knowledge of communication principles and stakeholder engagement to plan, execute and evaluate programmes

  • Reporting experience and knowledge
