BACKGROUND
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is an independent, non-profit organization (NGO), founded on the basis of humanitarian principles, and human rights based approach, to secure the protection of refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs), and to promoting long term solutions to the problems of forced displacement. Danish Demining Group (DDG) is a specialized unit within DRC which implements mine action and armed violence reduction (AVR) programmes in fragile states throughout the developing world. The East Africa and Yemen region consists of programmes in seven countries including Somalia, Kenya, Yemen, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Uganda and Tanzania

Responsibilities

  • In the absence of the Area Manager, assume responsibility for managing the Djibouti office.
  • Conduct needs assessments to inform program design as well as identify risks and vulnerabilities, including those related to gender, age and diversity.
  • Develop concrete initiatives to reduce protection risks experienced by the Somali and Yemeni refugee populations in Djibouti as well as migrants transiting through Djibouti.
  • Ensure that ethical and statistically-sound data collection and protection-related information management systems are in place and used for analysis, planning, evaluation, and advocacy.
  • Collaborate with the Area Manager and Addis Ababa human resources department to ensure protection staff evaluations are conducted on a regular basis.
  • Collaborate with the Area Manager, Logistics and Procurement Officer and Addis Ababa-based logistics and procurement team to develop and maintain protection-specific procurement plans.

    Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 to 4 years of experience in a mid-level management position, with experience in the field of humanitarian response and refugee protection working for an international NGO or UN agency.
  • Proven experience designing and implementing refugee protection interventions.
  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, law, social work, international development, or other relevant field from a recognized institution.
  • Excellent verbal and written proficiency in French and English. Knowledge of Arabic or Somali an added advantage.
