Job Description

  • Meeting the turnaround time schedules and quality results agreed with clients. Informing the Chief Technical Officer of any foreseen problems

  • Monitoring performance trends of IRM and CRM materials through LIMS and taking appropriate actions to correct any bias

  • Upholding the SANAS ISO 17025 accreditation of the Analytical Services Department (ASD) and ensuring continuous improvement to the system. Conducting internal audits to ensure that all departmental staff follow documented procedures of the Quality Manual, methods, and support documents. Participating actively in weekly quality meetings.

  • Ensuring the quantity of consumables is adequate by monitoring scheduled stock taking in comparison with volumes of processed samples. Replenishing inventory through PO and avoid operation disruptions. Ensuring the elimination of wastage at all levels.

  • Ensuring that ASD meet all scheduled reports both external (clients) and internal: certificate results, daily, weekly, and monthly reports. The internal reports should include activity levels, head count/use of overtime, direct costs, efficiency, effectiveness and profitability of each cost centre

  • Ensuring that the workforce is sufficiently motivated, skilled, and properly trained to meet the operational needs of the business. Promoting cross-training. It is the post holder’s responsibility to inform the CTO of continual proactive resourcing difficulties and, or, operational problems

  • Ensuring the profit margins of the business is within company expectations. Maintaining of good business practices as per company policy by minimizing risks to the business and possible litigations

  • Ensuring effective resolution of non conformances from internal or external audits. Conducting root cause analysis and implementing corrective action items
    in a timely manner. Avoiding reoccurrence of issues

  • Acting as an ISO 17025 approved Technical Signatory for all accredited methods

  • Ensuring that every lab method is regularly reviewed according to the Quality Manual. Identify new methods when appropriate and implement accordingly

  • Keeping abreast with all potential business opportunities through participation to marketing meetings and visits and provide necessary quotations and site visits reports. Following up any action items

  • Ensuring the Companys Health & Safety policy is applied effectively in all lab areas. In particular, monitoring the compliance to proper PPE usage, reporting near miss incidents and accidents

  • Coordinating with accounts department daily on all outstanding debtors/invoices and ensuring that all jobs are charged in the system and monitoring action on agreed areas of concern.

  • Ensuring that every lab method is properly validated. Validation should be redone if a major change of the corresponding method is performed

  • Ensuring that every equipment/instrument is functional/available and its quality performance properly documented

    Candidate Specification

    Experience 10 years

    Education Level Degree

    Qualifications

  • University related Chemistry Degree

    Software

  • Good literacy and computer/LIMS skills

    Equipment Job related

    Knowledge Of

  • Classical and instrumental analytical chemistry, specific to metals and minerals analysis and/or water analysis and or fuels and oils

    Skills To

  • Excellent communication skills, leadership skills, interpersonal skills, hands on analytical skills

    Ability To

  • Work with minimum supervision and take initiatives; record and time keeping

    Other Requirements

  • Customer service oriented, Quality oriented with good knowledge of ISO 17025
