  • The successful candidate will serve as the main focal point for internal and external communications.

  • S/he will be responsible for collaborating with partners and stakeholders, developing and executing communications plans that support a program portfolio, increasing the visibility of the project work.

  • S/he will be an experienced communications professional who is capable of advancing communications strategies, creative thinking, a high-level of understanding of audience segmentation and messaging; excellent work ethic, outstanding writing, editing, social media, media relations expertise, project management skills and the ability to thrive as part of a team while working independently.

  • The ideal candidate will hold, and have demonstrated actions, illustrating the same commitment and values.

  • The key responsibility for this role is to lead the development of and implementation of strategic communications plans for the program that supports overarching communications objectives.

    Support Programs team

  • Arrange for required Comms tools (with support of comms team) for programs team – presentation templates, word templates, logos, etc.

  • Brainstorm on comms requirements for programs and events

  • Coordinate, Collect and Process media

  • Knowledge of photography – should be comfortable using a DSLR or high-end mirror less camera.

  • Should have knowledge of maneuvering Adobe Creative Suite – image and video editing.

  • Support comms team to – Organize and store media in high quality in photo libraries

  • Coordinate with the programs team to collect media in training, events, etc.

  • Content, social media and website management

  • Plan posts on social media and support comms assistant to design and execute them on the platforms

  • Support comms assistant to keep the website up to date

  • Support Editor to generate content – success stories and human-interest stories from the program activities.

  • Good writing skills required

  • Liaise with international team

  • Attend meetings regularly with international Comms team

  • Contribute to media and story requirements from international team

  • Organize and coordinate media field visits

  • Coordinate offline comms materials

  • Organize for printed merchandise and stationery from corporate printers

  • Design or coordinate with consultants to design merchandise and stationery

  • Coordinate with consultants and service providers and partners

  • Liaise with consultants and service providers – film makers, photographers, graphic designers,
    printing partners, etc., to produce high quality output that is ethically produced and can be used by Light for the World and partners.

  • Generate regular newsletters that will be sent to the Initiative partners

  • Safeguard the branding manual and ensure its proper use within the organization, and outside

  • Provide leadership to the communications team and any consultants that comms team may work with
    Supervise work

  • Suggest capacity building opportunities

  • Play the role of safeguarding point of contact for the comms team in Kenya

  • Produce accurate and timely weekly, quarterly, and annual reports in coordination with program staff.

  • Assist with the writing and editing of reports and assessments produced under the program, including proofreading text and correcting spelling, grammar, and punctuation errors.

  • Produce weekly highlights, monthly newsletters, and fact sheets.

  • Conduct field visits and utilize intervention content to produce human-interest stories.

  • Create and manage the organizational Communications Calendar

  • Public Relations planning and messages, brand and image development.

  • Point of contact for press, media and public relations person

  • Manage media trainings, fellowships and feedback

    Profile of the Successful Candidate

  • At least 7 years’ experience in working in communications departments.

  • Experience in working in the NGO sector, especially the disability inclusion space is preferred.

  • Comfortable working in a fast paced work environment.

  • Open minded – can work well with diverse individuals.

  • Innovative, creative, ready to learn and adapt.
