CIC Program Officer, Industry Linkages Jobs in Kenya


General Expectations

  • Reporting to the Senior Technical Advisor/CICan Representative (STA) and working with stakeholders in the specific assigned region, the Program Officer, Industry Linkages will be responsible for establishing and maintaining industrial linkages in liaison with the STA and relevant partners.

  • The position is expected to involve some travel within Kenya.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The Program Officer, Industry Linkages will:

  • Collaborate with the STA to implement and follow through industry linkages initiatives.

  • Responsible for nurturing linkages between training providers and industry to ensure adequate and relevant skills development.

  • Assist in the development of Terms of Reference/Roles and Responsibilities policies for Industry Advisory Committees where needed.

  • Coordinate meetings for trainer, professionals, and employers to discuss relevance of TVET training.

  • Attend all institutional Industry Advisory Committee meetings if possible.

  • Collaborate on curricula development with TVET institutional partners and enhance alignment of supply and demand of skills.

  • Perform an advisory role in curriculum equipment mapping exercises to ensure installed institutional equipment capacity is congruent with industry needs.

  • Coordinate the initiation and foster the formal linkages of industries with relevant stakeholders.

  • Work closely with YAW-K-TVET partnership coordinators to address issues on linkages as communicated with the various stakeholders and or TVET institutions.

  • Research and advise on emerging trends in industry in the context of new skills development needs.

  • Provide support to project implementation.

  • Coordinate project activities in Kenya in partnership with other program officers

  • Initiating formal linkages with industries to solicit their support in develop of the missing linkages.

  • Monitor implementation of industry linkages and recommend required actions.

  • Contribute to project documentation including reports, workplans, and project products.

  • Works closely with TVET partners and private sector agencies on matters relevant to industrial linkages for the delivery of project objectives.

  • Support Kenyan institutional partners to achieve industrial linkages collaboration

  • Perform any other related tasks as assigned.

    Minimum Required Education and Experience

  • Full fluency in English and Swahili.

  • Kenyan citizen or legally permitted to work in Kenya. Note: CICan will not provide a work permit or sponsor individuals.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.

  • At least 5 years’ experience of working and or collaborating with
    TVET institutions, i.e. an institutional Industry Liaison Officer role, or TVET Project officer.

  • Direct experience working in the Kenyan private sector.

  • Strong understanding of the Kenyan TVET sector.

  • A proven ability to work with a wide range of stakeholders in government, industry, and education.

  • Strong communication skills in English; written and spoken, and ability to communicate in Kiswahili, ability to present to large and diverse audience.

  • High proficiency with using the Internet, MS Office applications (Word, Power Point, Excel, and Outlook), and Skype, Microsoft Teams (or a similar application).

    Preferred Skills Abilities, Qualifications, and Experience

  • Experience working in a donor-funded program environment of NGO preferred.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective linkages with both internal and external partners.

  • Ability to work independently.

  • Demonstrated punctuality, attention to detail, professionalism, patience, good humor, and an overall outgoing and positive attitude.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, exhibiting grace under pressure, able to bring together diverse groups of people.

  • Experience in advocating for greater access for women and girls into industry via TVET training programs.

  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to execute a range of job duties and changing priorities concurrently.

  • Excellent verbal, written, and presentation skills with the ability to articulate information to a variety of constituents across cultures.

  • Professional maturity, sensitivity with different cultures, and impeccable integrity that exemplify the CICan’s values.
