About ChildFund

  • ChildFund is a non-sectarian and non-profit development organization working in more than 30 countries worldwide to improve the well-being of about 15.2 million children and families, regardless of race, creed, religion and gender. In Kenya, ChildFund works through 12 local partners (LP’s) in 26 counties. The thematic areas that the organization focus on include: Child Protection, Household Economic Strengthening, Early Childhood Development, Education, WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene), Emergency Response, Health and Nutrition.

  • The three-fold mission is to help deprived, excluded and vulnerable children improve their lives and become adults who bring positive changes to their communities by promoting societies that value, protect and advance the worth and rights of children and to enrich supporters’ lives through their support to the organization’s cause.

    Purpose of the Training

  • The youth in Kenya are faced with many challenges including unemployment, underemployment, inability to access financial, market and other support services, shortage of skills in ICT labor market, substance abuse and health related issues among others. The Kenya Youth Development Policy 2019 is however, designed to promote the creation of sustainable decent jobs and income generating opportunities for all youth, facilitate building of digital skills and leverage young people’s natural affinity to technology.

  • Despite this, the youth especially those living in rural areas are usually the hardest hit with problems ranging from; institutional barriers such as limited market access and limited involvement in policy dialogue and agricultural governance, lack of access to knowledge, information and education around both agricultural best practices as well as entrepreneurial skills, limiting productivity hindering the development of their ventures. These problems faced by youths can be traced to their early lives and the focus need to start right at school.

  • Children and young people have enormous potential and have sound judgment, can act on their own, lead others, and work as part of a team. These skills are often underdeveloped in the early years or go unnoticed, despite the profound impact that these abilities may have on their future and the world. Childhood should however, be perceived as a precious time, where exploration, learning and character development are key.

  • The objective of this assignment therefore, is to build the capacity of the Local Partners working with ChildFund to implement Aflatoun programs aimed at working with the teachers and school going children and harnessing the early period in their life by offering them a unique blend of soft skills, financial literacy and entrepreneurship skills while also providing them with practical experience to equip them with the tools to build a better and a more sustainable future.
