Chemonics seeks a deputy chief of party for the USAID Social and Behavior Change for Transformation (SBC4T) activity in Uganda.

Based in Kampala, SBC4T aims to promote adoption of behaviors — by individuals, households, and communities — that lead to improved health and development outcomes. The deputy chief of party will support overall strategic leadership and assist the chief of party in project oversight.

Responsibilities include:

  • Support strategic leadership and assist the chief of party in coordinating project activities and staff
  • Build effective partnerships with diverse partners and stakeholders
  • Ensure the project complies with USAID policies and regulations and that systems are in place to mitigate risk of fraud, waste, and abuse
  • Serve as the acting chief of party in the chief of party’s absence

    Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in public health, communications/behavior change, social sciences, international development, or a related advanced
    degree
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in managing and providing technical support and capacity building for large complex international projects with significant social and behavior change aims
  • Considerable working experience in social behavior change preferred
  • Senior expertise in at least one of these technical areas: family planning and reproductive health, HIV/AIDS, maternal and child health, malaria, gender, and youth; proven understanding of all these areas to direct integrated collaboration and coordination efforts
  • Demonstrated experience managing large-scale social and behavior change activities in Uganda
  • Demonstrated experience applying social and behavior change approaches within and outside of the health sector; experience with human-centered design and behavioral economics preferred
  • Experience reporting to USAID or other U.S. government-funded programs
  • Experience working with the Ministry of Health and implementing partners in Uganda required
  • Excellent communication and writing skills in English
  • Demonstrated integrity, independent thinking, and judgement
