CHAI Associate - Maternal and Neonatal Health Jobs in South Africa


Position Overview

  • The Associate will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks, from quantitative analysis to collaborating with stakeholders, including DoH, suppliers and other partners, to building workable and sustainable solutions to strengthen healthcare systems. The Associate will be expected to lead areas of engagement relating to improvements in supply chain-related data integrity, market intelligence, demand forecasting, quantification, and initiatives related to holistic supply chain strengthening. The Associate will also be responsible for identifying and testing innovative health system interventions and development of an optimization case to scale these interventions.

  • The ideal candidate must have strong quantitative and analytical skills, excellent communication and writing skills, be self-directed, be able to adapt to the differing needs of the program and have a strong commitment to excellence. The Associate will provide support both strategically and analytically.

  • The Associate will be based in Pretoria, South Africa and will report to the MNH Program Manager. The role requires travel to the various provinces in support of project deliverables and objectives.

    Responsibilities

    Specifically, key responsibilities will include, but are not limited, to the following:

  • Develop a thorough understanding of the healthcare systems, referral protocols, pharmaceutical and diagnostic landscape related to the MNH within South Africa and globally, including key priorities, challenges and gaps in order to inform program development;

  • Translate objectives provided by the government, donors, and other partner organizations into clear activity plans, and provide guidance to the MNH team and DoH on prioritization of initiatives;

  • Manage the development and presentation of MNH medicines and equipment forecasting and quantification analysis to internal and external stakeholders;

  • Identify, test and create business cases for innovative interventions/products, that if taken to scale, will improve health outcomes for MNH or result in reduction in costs for care of mothers and babies in alignment with the DoH strategic goals and priorities;

  • Manage and establish collaborative relationships with the DoH, suppliers, partner organizations and other relevant stakeholders;

  • Identify, and lead implementation of specific health system interventions for MNH referrals;

  • Lead and coordinate the development of the optimization case in collaboration with multiple stakeholders;

  • Participate in working group(s) to support evidence generation for implementation of initiatives to optimize access to medicines and equipment;

  • Ensure communication and alignment of activities across government and partner stakeholders’ efforts and across other CHAI programs in South
    Africa and Global;

  • Develop and deliver compelling presentations and participate in stakeholder engagements related to program implementation and reporting for internal and external stakeholders;

  • Collaborate and work across teams to support new innovations and change ideas;

  • Develop and document best practices to showcase successes and opportunities that can be taken to scale in the form of case studies, articles and abstracts for submission to journals and conference;

  • Support the MNH Program Manager on key deliverables and ad-hoc requirements, as needed.

    Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Economics, Public Health, Business or a related field;

  • A minimum of three years professional experience in a private or public sector setting and with increasing levels of responsibility and experience;

  • English language fluency, both written and verbal.

    Advantages:

  • Experience using statistical software, such as Stata, SAS, SPSS or R;

  • Knowledge of sexual reproductive health, health systems strengthening, and/or global healthcare systems;

  • End to end project management experience;

  • Management consulting or other relevant private and public sector experience;

  • Advanced problem solving, analytical, and quantitative skills, including significant experience working in Excel and PowerPoint, and presenting findings and recommendations (analytical skills and proficiency levels will be evaluated during recruiting process);

  • Systems-thinker with ability to think through multi-factorial problems and navigate complex situations;

  • Entrepreneurial mindset; demonstrated ability to work independently on complex projects and solve challenging problems, in a high-pressure, fast-paced environment;

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task with a strong commitment to excellence, both internally and externally, and with limited structural support;

  • Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills;

  • Demonstrated ability to handle competing deliverables and meeting tight deadlines and quick turnaround times;

  • Exceptional diplomatic and interpersonal skills, and ability to build strong professional relationships with a range of stakeholders in a challenging, multi-cultural environment;

  • Ability to present, showcase and engage, on work undertaken on a variety of platforms and with multiple stakeholders;

  • Strategically minded, able to think creatively around long-term program objectives and the detailed steps necessary to achieve these goals;

  • Willingness to travel as and when required.
