Overview The Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc. (CHAI) is a global health organization committed to saving lives and reducing the burden of disease in low-and middle-income countries, while strengthening the capabilities of governments and the private sector in those countries to create and sustain high-quality health systems that can succeed without our assistance.
The Associate will support the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Department of Health 's Malaria Programme and execution of more effective malaria elimination programmes as the country aims for zero local transmission of malaria by 2023. The Associate will operate at a high level and will be expected to develop and manage strong relationships with the NDOH, the provincial malaria teams and relevant country partners.
The role will require the associate to help design evidence-based strategic plans and provide dedicated day-to-day operational support to ensure execution of effective, high-impact programmes. The associate will need to be able to work independently, within a fast-paced working environment.
About 20% of all cases of malaria reported in Kwa-Zulu Natal do not have a travel history outside the province or country to an endemic area. Therefore, classified as local cases and the key strategic goal of the NDOH is to reach zero local transmission by 2022 and support building scientific evidence towards sub-national elimination within districts. It is these key goals that the CHAI malaria associate will work towards.
The position requires a highly motivated individual with outstanding analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills. The candidate must be able to work independently to drive implementation and have deep personal commitment to producing results. Successful candidates should be fast learners and strategic thinkers who are both willing to take on routine tasks such as data entry and capable of facilitating high-level strategic discussions with a multi-cultural, multidisciplinary set of actors.

To Note: This position is primarily based in Richards Bay KwaZulu Natal, with an alternative base location of Jozini, KwaZulu Natal.
Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Support the Environmental Health/CDC & Malaria Director and Deputy directors on key deliverables and ad-hoc requirements, as needed.
Provide day-to-day Programme management support to the provincial malaria programme sectional managers such
as HR, Finance, Laboratory.
Build strong relationships with stakeholders across government and non-governmental organizations.
Serve as a trusted advisor to the national malaria programme and the KwaZuIu-Natal provincial malaria programme.
Conduct provincial level assessment to help to make evidence-based plans and execute effective programmes.
Identify key impediments to programmatic goals and help devise targeted solutions.
Work with CHAI's technical teams, South Africa's malaria programme manager, and regional manager to develop and implement a coordinated programme of support.
Support implementation of the malaria surveillance system, including active case detection, 24-hour surveillance system and other initiatives.
Conduct quantitative analyses to ensure sufficient supplies of commodities, appropriate coverage with interventions, and/or progress towards programme goals.
Conduct costing and financial analyses and support development of funding proposals.
Draft presentations and reports for internal and external stakeholders
Coordinate meetings and facilitate knowledge sharing between the government and partner organizations in the region to ensure coordination.
Provide programme and budget updates for donor reporting and best practice sharing.
Support the development and implementation of the cross-border collaboration initiatives.
Bachelor’s degree or an advanced degree in management, public health, or other relevant fields.
A minimum of 3-5 years of work experience.
Exceptional problem-solving solving skills and analytical capabilities.
Skill in making persuasive presentations and written reports.
Strong organizational abilities and detail-oriented approach.
Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and set priorities.
Ability to work independently and to manage own portfolio.
Strong interpersonal skills and proven ability to build and maintain strong relationships in a multicultural environment.
Patience and thoughtfulness even in high-pressure, stressful situations.
Strong spoken and written English.
Experience working in South Africa and a strong understanding of the landscape of South Africa.
Experience working in management consulting, investment banking, or similar fast-paced, output-oriented environments.
Knowledge of malaria and/or global healthcare systems.
