BURN Manufacturing Country Representative - Rwanda Jobs


  • BURN is seeking a part time Rwanda Country Representative to assist with BURN’s market entry into Rwanda. S/he will work closely with BURN’s Expansion team in Kenya to assist in the formation of a stable operation in Rwanda. The position has five core responsibilities, as well as several additional responsibilities that will evolve throughout the duration of the position in line with the country strategy.

    Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage Local Operations: Assist with running of local operations, including business setup (business registration, licenses, banking etc.), third-party logistics, staff, and country-specific commercial operations.

  • New Business Development: Identify and develop new distribution partnerships targeting wholesalers, retailers, financial institutions, corporations, government institutions, and NGOs. This includes representing BURN in trade forums, such as the Energy Private Developer's Association (EPD).

  • Product Pilot Management: Assist in managing in-country pilots of BURN products, which may involve collecting data from end-users, distributors, and other partners, and reporting to BURN staff in Nairobi.

  • Information gathering: Gather critical market information on the improved cookstove sector, BURN’s distribution partners, competitor activity and other key areas of the market.

  • Team Management: Hire (or outsource), train and manage a team of sales activators /merchandisers and researchers/enumerators when necessary.

  • Key Account Management: Effectively monitor and manage key distribution partnerships/customer accounts and provide support when necessary.

    Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Research and Reporting: Produce analytical reports on the development of
    strategic projects, including distribution activities, marketing projects, sales forecasting, as well as comprehensive research reports on a diverse range of topics.

  • Market Research: Assist with BURN’s on-the-ground market research projects, specifically, willingness to pay and usability studies for its existing and new product line.

  • Administrative Work: Assist with a range of administrative-related tasks.

    Skills and Experience:

    Essentials:

  • Bachelor or MBA degree, preferably in business, market intelligence or marketing.

  • 3 years’ experience in project management and demonstrated ability to coordinate complex projects with many stakeholders to deliver results on time.

  • Knowledge of the sales and marketing fields in the Rwandan context, preferably in consumer durables and/or fast-moving consumer goods.

  • High level of comfort working with high-level business clients in Rwanda.

  • Experience working with governmental stakeholders / establishing partnerships with government agencies in Rwanda.

  • Strong analytic/number-crunching background, particularly with sales and marketing data.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English & Kinyarwanda.

  • Enthusiastic, entrepreneurial, a desire to ‘sell for good’ and willingness to get your “hands dirty”.

    Skills and Experience:

    Desirable:

  • Experience developing business strategy and plans.

  • Experience in identifying and developing B2B distribution partnerships in Rwanda.

  • Experience managing key accounts across a range of distribution channels.

  • Previous experience in market research or M&E.

  • Fluency in French & English.
