    Job Description

    Roles and Responsibilities

  • The Chief Steward with the guidance of the manager supervises and coordinates the activities of the running of the residence to include pantry, storeroom, wine cellar & equipment.

  • The successful candidate should have previous experience in all aspects of domestic service in a family and professional environment .

  • They should be enthusiastic, have a cheerful disposition and and be willing to work flexible hours, which will include some evenings and weekends, within a busy team environment.

  • Basic Food & Beverage Certificate as well as completed secondary school education with a good command of written and spoken English.

  • He/ She is part of the Residence staff team and will be expected to help out other team members when required and carry out any additional tasks set by the Residence Manager.

    Main Duties

  • Confers with the Manager and Chef regarding event arrangements for food service, extra employees & equipment required

  • Meet, greet & usher in guests

  • Setup and service of meals for official and private events

  • Bar handling and service

  • Drinks inventory and stock taking
    Takes inventories of china, silverware & glassware.

  • Basic food preparation and support to the Chef when requested

  • Shopping runs for the Residence as required

  • Coordinates the work of non cooking staff engaged in activities such as dishwashing, silver cleaning & storage.

  • Reports shortages & requisitions through manager for replacement of equipment.

    Essential qualifications, skills and experience

  • Food & Beverage Diploma Essential with minimum 5 years experience
    in service industry

  • Completion of Secondary School Education

  • Intermediate to advanced skills in typing & computer software skills ( MS & Excel Applications)

  • Intermediate to advanced level English verbal & writing skills

  • Excellent customer service skills

    Desirable qualifications, skills and experience

  • A valid driver’s licence

    Working Patterns:

  • The office hours are 07:00 - 18:00 Monday to Fridays (based on shift)

    Leave

  • Members of staff are entitled to paid annual leave, which is earned, from the day they commence employment.

    Entitlements are as follows

  • Grades S2 (L) 25 days

  • In addition to annual leave, the BHC normally observes no fewer than 9 and no more than 14 Kenyan and British public and religious holidays in a year.

  • These vary from year to year and are at the discretion of the High Commissioner.

  • A list of holidays is published each year.
