Association for Aid and Relief Japan Project Engineer - Fluency in English and Kiswahili Jobs in Kenya Association for Aid and Relief, Japan (AAR Japan) is an International Non-Governmental Organization that offers long-term humanitarian support to those who are vulnerable.
AAR Japan is launching an Educational project in Kakuma and Kalobeyei.
AAR Japan Kakuma Office is seeking to hire a Project Engineer for the project.
The successful candidate will be stationed at AAR Japan Kakuma Office with frequent field visits to Kalobeyei.
He/She will work closely with the Programme Coordinators, Project Manager and other staff, and will be responsible for the following duties:
Supervise the subcontractor’s construction works on daily basis to make sure the design, specifications, and quality standards are followed and the progress is on schedule.
Keep daily records of work progress, achievements, obstacles and remarks on the material, workmanship and resources for each construction site.
Carry out actual measurements for the completed items in the different stages when the contractor is entitled for payments according to the Contract.
Supervise and inspect the quality and condition of the materials that it is required standard.
Supervise the construction site that is in order and secured against any risk from outside.
Supervise the logistical operation of material supplies.
Supervise delivery and installation of the school furniture to designated location in coordination with suppliers and director of school.
Prepare solicitation documents and provide bid evaluation through the analysis of the bids and detailed assessment of the bidder's capacity.
Coordinate with relevant personnel to establish and support Maintenance Club and conduct Maintenance training.
Coordinate and supervise school maintenance activities run by Maintenance Clubs at schools.
Develop Bill of Quantities, designs and specifications of construction works.
Support preparation of contracts, proposals, and any other documents required for projects.
Provide technical assistance to engineering issues for other projects that AAR Japan Kakuma Office carries out.
Perform other duties instructed by supervisors.
Submit monthly report to supervisors by the end of each month.
Seek for funding opportunities for AAR Japan project/office fund.
Holder of a Bachelor Degree or higher in civil engineering, building engineering, architecture and construction.
More than 5 years’ experience in working in complex environments and large infrastructure and/or civil works, particularly in the field of construction technical project documentation development as well as construction supervision.
Experience of working with international NGO is advantage.
Knowledge of procurement, tendering and contracting processes and requirements
Excellent and proven experience in dealing with contractors and local partners
Knowledge of the UN rules, procedures and regulations would be an asset
Good computer skills of CAD system (AutoCAD, ArchiCAD and Structural Design software etc.), Microsoft Office (MS Word, Excel, Powerpoint) and emails.
Strong negotiation, problem solving, time management and facilitation skills.
Should have good communication and report writing skills.
Good understanding of working with people from different cultures.
Should be self-driven and motivated.
Able to work well both independently and in a team.
Fluent in English and Kiswahili (Turkana/Arabic language is advantage).
Period January – December 2020 (12 months) with 3-month probation period (possible for extension)
Salary Range (Gross) 130,000 – 149,000 Kenyan Shillings /month
