    About the Role:

  • Apollo is seeking an experienced Head of Field Sales Operations and Expansion to drive sales and operational excellence in the Field Sales vertical, and lead the charge on Apollo expansion plans. This role is responsible for providing strategic sales leadership, backed by strong operational processes and systems, to achieve aggressive growth goals.

  • Our field agents team is an integral part of our operations and its success is key to our scale - they are our ‘boots on the ground’, often the first direct contact farmers have with Apollo, responsible for signing up our customers and subsequent relationship management throughout their journey with Apollo. This role will also own Apollo’s overall Expansion strategy in collaboration with the product team and Apollo’s leadership team

    Your Day-to-Day:

  • Set and Execute Apollo’s Field Sales Strategy: Work with Apollo Leadership and function leads to set and execute Apollo’s Field Sales strategy to drive customer portfolio growth. This requires:

  • Continuously honing and refining Apollo’s value proposition to customers, working closely with other departments such as Marketing to design delivery of this messaging to Apollo customers.

  • Leveraging insights from data to define, forecast, and monitor key performance metrics, and execute the necessary interventions to ensure targets are met.

  • Ensuring the continuous flow of key insights across relevant functions and reporting on performance both within the Sales department, and cross-functionally e.g. distilling and relaying customer feedback on product design and pricing to inform future products etc.

  • Subsequently be responsible for ensuring that Apollo’s sales and growth targets are consistently met.

  • Team Leadership: Recruit, train, and effectively manage a highly motivated Field Sales and Operations team to enable Apollo to meet field sales and field agents retention targets.

  • Develop scalable processes to hire, train and manage performance for the Field Sales team, enabling the growth and long-term maintenance of a 5,000+ strong field sales team.

  • Leverage our world-class technology and business intelligence teams to support rapid scaling and aggressive, sustained growth at a rate of 3x per year

  • Operational Leadership: Create, maintain and refine excellent processes and systems to support the effective and efficient functioning of the field operations and sales vertical. This will include:

  • Making frequent field visits to interact with customers and field teams, understanding where our processes are working well, and actioning key improvements.

  • Driving operational innovations, and quickly implementing and iterating on experiments geared towards increasing efficiency and our rate of growth.

  • Develop

    - Develop Apollo’s overall Expansion strategy:
    This includes everything from designing, field surveys, and owning the execution of the whole process to guide expansion decisions and inform where, how and when we expand to new regions and farming areas across the country and in new countries as we grow.

  • Develop tools, systems, team and processes for field expansion scouting: Selecting new high growth, high impact regions for expansion; scouting these on the ground and collecting farmer, agro dealers, partners and regional agro-economic data; complementing internal data with appropriate desktop research and data from external sources and stakeholders; synthesizing this into actionable insights and criteria to inform high impact expansion decisions.

  • Develop and own Expansion Infrastructure & Stakeholder Relations: You will identify, locate and set up the requisite infrastructure needed to operate the program successfully in new expansion areas. You will also initiate and build strong stakeholder relationships in new locations to facilitate strong, mutually productive relationships and synergies with existing stakeholders.


  • Are a strong people leader, with 10+ years’ proven experience leading a field operations and sales team across multiple regions on a national or international scale.

  • Understand rural or peri-urban sales, ideally with an FMCG background.

  • Extremely comfortable and excited to spend extended periods of time in the field.

  • Excel at communicating big picture goals and targets across different organizational levels, getting buy-in and motivating teams to high performance.

  • Are adept at establishing operational systems and processes to support the achievement of sales objectives.

  • Have a keen understanding of both qualitative and quantitative approaches to setting and achieving sales targets and team goals.

  • Are adept at engaging and influencing key regulatory and government stakeholders, in the context of expansion into new regions and markets.
