Background: The Association for the Physically Disabled of Kenya (APDK) in partnership with CBM and other consortium members (ANDY, Leonard Cheshire, World Bank, ILO and Plan International) is implementing a three-year FCDO-funded project dubbed ‘Innovation to Inclusion’ (i2i) whose main goal is to promote access to and accelerate opportunities for apprenticeship, internship and employment of persons with disabilities in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.
The initiative is funded by FCDO and implemented both in Kenya and Bangladesh. The project seeks to recruit a private sector engagement officer to drive private sector engagement with the view of promoting employment of persons with disability, capacity building, mentorship and coaching in the private sector with a view of deepening disability inclusion.
The objective of the position holder is to assess capacity of private sector companies to provide equal access and an equal opportunity for youth with disabilities to participate in employment work.
The role and responsibilities:
Support implementation of inclusionary policies among participating private sector companies
Support private sector companies by building a business case for disability inclusion at the workplace
Act as a strategic link between i2i partners, KBDN and private sector companies participating in the project
Mobilize corporates into partnership for inclusive employment
Support private sector implement inclusive Environmental Social and corporate Governance (ESG) model to support inclusive practices.
Support follow up of employees with disability employed within the participating companies
In consultation with the private sector, organize for learning and exchange forums on disability inclusive approaches
In consultation with participating companies, organize for training, sensitization and capacity building activities to strengthen disability inclusion.
Support in the development of disability-inclusive resource kits
Liaise with participating to identify and share strategic calendar events that APDK can leverage on to strengthen disability inclusion
Provide regular updates and such as monthly or quarterly progress reports in the private
sector engagement
APDK’s Responsibilities:
The APDK will:
Provide supportive supervision review progress and milestones
Introduce him/her to the private sector companies as well as consortium members
Provide supportive environment to work and deliver the project deliverables
Share critical information that is required to improve private sector engagement outcomes
Provide essential resources, toolkits and resources for effective implementation
Ensure timely payments for work delivered as per APDK rules and regulations.
Perform any other tasks as described in the contract document.
Duration: 6 months (renewable subject to performance)
Date required: 01 March, 2021
Qualifications:
Minimum Bachelor degree in strategic planning, business management, social sciences or any other relevant qualifications
Knowledge in disability inclusive approaches is an added advantage
Have experience in private sector engagement particularly on employment of persons with disability
Have remarkable learning and research paper writing skills in English
Have excellent public relationship and relationship building skills with stakeholders including government agencies, industries, NGOs, DPOs/organizations working for the persons with disabilities and private companies.
Be able to meet deadline and complete assignment within the stipulated time-frame.
